Organizations Filed Purposes: The AIA California Council, in collaboration with local components, is the voice of the profession.

Professional Practice: The goal of the professional practice program is to provide resources to use in current practice, further career development, to provide information about licensure and continuing education requirements, and to disseminate practice advisories and project leads. Successes for 2015 included: development of educational materials to help architects better communicate with clients; sponsored the Healthcare Facilities Forum which brought together over 150 healthcare professionals and representatives in the design and construction industry to identify and impacts of the changing environment on healthcare facilities. The AIACC hosted the Monterey Design Conference which brought together more than 820 professionals to be inspired by an internationally recognized faculty and facilitate a conversation about the future of smart design. Also in 2015, the AIACC participated in the Center for Innovation in the Design and Construction Industry (CIDCI), an organization created to enable collaboration within and among the design, construction and other industries. The mission of this group is to explore project delivery and accelerate the adoption of new ideas and revolution project outcomes. Finally, the AIACC also spent significant time, gathering information, promoting educational offerings, and organizing technical resources for the architectural profession to respond to the energy efficiency requirements outlined in AB 32 (California's Global Warming Solutions Act). In addition, the AIACC hosted three Firm Roundtables - an outreach effort to better understand issues facing architectural firms and how the AIACC can best respond to these issues, regardless of firm size.

Communications/Public Affairs The goal of the Communications/Public Affairs program is to increase public awareness regarding the value and contribution architects bring to the development of California's communities; to enhance the understanding of architects, architecture, and the environment, as well as increase communications between the AIACC, allied professionals and the public regarding issues of common concern. The AIACC has several communications vehicles to aid in the distribution of these messages. Publications - providing opportunities for communicating architectural activities in the state, as well as forums for sharing professional expertise, and highlighting issues of public and professional concern. In 2015 the AIACC published 18 +(INSERT) issues of Relevance - the electronic membership newsletter - and expanded its frequency to weekly. The AIACC also launched a special newsletter for AIA leaders throughout the state and distributed 12 issues; providing timely information and tools they can use in their volunteer positions and at the chapter level. The AIACC's website (www.aiacc.org) was continuously updated with tools to assist architects with their practice, and content was developed to aid in the public's understanding of the value of design. The seven micro-sites: Energy, Leadership, Monterey Design Conference, Now Next Future, Design Awards, CAF, CIDCI) were managed, updated and pushed out to various media contacts. The social media presence was also strengthened.

The goal of the Regulatory Affairs program is to advocate before regulatory agencies the interests of architects in the State. The AIACC Regulatory Affairs program staff monitors approximately 18 State agencies, and actively lobbies, on average, 12 of those agencies during any given year. The agencies capable of having significant effect on the profession are the California Architects Board (CAB), the Division of the State Architect, the Building Standards Commission (BSC), the California Energy Commission, and the California Public Utilities Commission. The Regulatory Affairs program also plays a significant role in the Executive (Governor's) Appointments process where it has achieved great success in securing the appointment of AIA member architects to various boards and commissions, including the State Architect. The Regulatory Affairs program is also responsible for advocating Qualifications-Based Selection, and assisting AIA members with practice related issues concerning legal, professional liability insurance, and contract matters. For 2015, the Regulatory Affairs program successfully lobbied the re-appointment of the State Architect, and the reappointment of an AIA Member architect to the California Commission on Disability Access (CCDA). Other program activities include lobbying the CAB to support the AIACC's legislative efforts for Intern Titling, the Department of Housing and Community Development to remove certification language from CALGreen installation documents, the CCDA on burdensome Checklist requirements. Regulatory Affairs participates in strengthening communications and collaboration between the agencies capable of having significant effect on the practice and profession of architecture.
