We served 188 women directly by offering Holiday Financial Relief to 19 families during Thanksgiving and Christmas. We provided 22 women with financial support for basic needs throughout the year.
ADVOCACY & OUTREACH Increasing the awareness of and about African American women with breast through community involvement and engagement is one our greatest goals. This year we expanded our education to include Heart Health as a co-morbidity to breast cancer. We hosted 3 activities especially for this purpose, in addition to incorporating heart health into our October Outreach efforts. Throughout the year, we participated in 6 community events and hosted a film festival collectively reaching more 40,000 survivors and community members. In October alone, our Celebration of Life "tour" provides awareness, education and celebration about breast health to 11 community events and 8 churches.
Speaking our African American Realities (SOAR) In partnership with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), we co-lead a community/academic research project to study the psychological impact of black women with breast cancer. 38 women participated in Phase 1 of Project SOAR (Speaking Our African American Realities).
