Organizations Filed Purposes: Gender Health Center is a community based non-profit organization focusing primarily on the mental health and advocacy of the Transgender community in Sacramento. GHC provides mental health counseling, career counseling, medical, legal, and social support and advocacy, as well as respite and harm reduction services. Our mission is to provide affordable and accessible services to those in need. We provide several hundred counseling sessions per month on a sliding-scale fee, based on income, and no one is ever turned away for inability to pay. We believe that every individual should have equal access to healthcare and basic support services, regardless of race, gender, orientation, or economic/social status.

Other ServicesName and Gender Change Paperwork AssistanceAdvocates assist clients in filling out name and gender change court paperwork and identity documents, such as driver license, birth certificate, passport and social security changes; become familiar with the court process for changing name and gender; provide information to clients around the process for legal name and gender change.Covered California Outreach and EducationGHC is Northern Californias link to affordable health care. Currently, we are working under a grant from Covered California to find uninsured folks, focusing on the queer and trans community in Northern California. We table at community events, host town hall meetings and educational workshops.Economic Empowerment ProgramGHC provides employment and career counseling appointments. Advocates do an assessment to refer to employment and career counselors.

Mental Health ServicesAt Gender Health Center our counseling services focus on client-based narrative therapy which utilizes the power of peoples personal stories. Clients are encouraged, through a respectful and cooperative relationship, to address the issues in their lives that exist amidst social, political, and cultural storylines.We will see anyone for any reason without regard to gender identity, sexual orientation, race, color, religion, creed, national origin, age, ancestry, disability, marital status, veteran, or draft status. If you do want to see us about gender concerns, our counselors are trained to deal with LGBT concerns especially transgender.

Healthcare ServicesGender Health Center runs a free/donation based Hormone Prescription clinic in collaboration with the UC Davis School of Medicine and UC Davis Family Practice. GHC is NOT a medical facility and we cannot provide any primary care services. The clinic is run by 1st & 2nd year medical students under the supervision of licensed family practitioners. Labs are drawn free of charge at the clinic. GHC also provides a social space for community members to connect at during clinic while they wait to be seen. Free Rapid HIV tests are also provided at clinic Free legal health advocacy is also provided for those who are having issues with insurance or other healthcare related issues (provided by LSNC)The hormone clinic provides services to community members who would otherwise not have access to medication, however, we do not turn anyone away (hormones are prescribed on a case-by-case basis, following current WPATH standards of care and an informed consent model). Our interdisciplinary team centers around meeting every patients health advocacy needs, like getting access to health coverage, a primary care provider and attaining any other medical transition goals.Due to the nature of the clinic being held only twice a month and it being a free/donation based service, the clinic is extremely impacted. New patients to the clinic can expect a 2-3 month wait to be seen. We understand that this isnt the timeliest circumstance, but our health advocates are here to work with you to help you potentially get connected to care in a primary care setting.
