Our mission is seeking to put Gods love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Our vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento (Habitat) brings people together to build and preserve affordable homeownership opportunities for qualified low-income families, seniors, and veterans in Sacramento and Yolo County, and uplifts and revitalizes under-served neighborhoods and communities in the greater Sacramento region.During the year ended June 30, 2020, despite challenges amidst the onset of the global COVID-19 pandemic, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento impacted over 2,000 under-served individuals in Sacramento and Yolo County through home build, home repair, and community projects. The majority of individuals served through Habitat were BIPOC, women, and children. Additionally, through Habitats global tithe, Habitat supported an additional 764 construction housing services and 1,257 non-construction services in Nicaragua (benefiting majority women). Habitats homeownership program serves low and very low-income families (earning between 30-80% of the Sacramento and Yolo County Area Median Income as determined by HUD) with the opportunity to build and purchase their home at an affordable, 30-year 0% interest equivalent mortgage. Through affordable home ownership, low-income families have the opportunity for safe, stable shelter and to build equity and assets for their family. This past year, Habitat completed new ownership opportunities for 6 families in the Sacramento region with an additional 15 under construction. In addition to Habitats homeownership program, Habitats Neighborhood Revitalization program serves low-income homeowners (primarily seniors and veterans) earning under 80% of the Area Median Income in Sacramento and Yolo County with home preservation and repair services with an additional focus on also serving under-served neighborhoods through Community Impact Projects that uplift the entire neighborhood through the improvement of existing neighborhood assets (examples include planting community gardens, adding amenities to local community centers, revitalizing local parks). 35 home repair projects were completed during the year ended June 30, 2020 along with 5 community projects. The work of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento is only made possible through support from the local community and that was made ever more evident this year amidst a global pandemic that caused a temporary closure of the ReStore (Habitats retail recycling facility that sells donated new and used building supplies and home furnishings) and furloughs of 90% of the Habitat staff for 6 weeks. Despite challenges, Habitat built back, engaged over 1,517 volunteers who volunteered 20,007 hours working hand in hand with Habitat staff and partner families, diverted over 950,000 lbs. of usable materials from landfill through the ReStore, and impacted over 4,021 cumulative under-served individuals locally and abroad.
