THE PROGRAM ADMINISTERS THE BEACON AWARD: A RECOGNITION PROGRAM FOR CITY AND COUNTRY LEADERS IN CLIMATE CHANGE AND SUSTAINABILITY, THE SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAM IS CENTERED AROUND ILG'S BEACON PROGRAM. THE BEACON PROGRAM SERVES AS A CATALYST FOR INNOVATIVE AND EFFECTIVE SOLUTIONS ADDRESSING CLIMATE CHANGE AT THE LOCAL LEVEL AND FOR INFORMING THE COMMUNITY ABOUT THESE ACTIVITIES. THE PROGRAM RECOGNIZES LOCAL GOVERNMENTS' VOLUNTARY EFFORST TO REDUCE GREENHOUSE GAS EMMISONS, SAVE ENERGY AND ADOPT POLICIES AND PROGRAMS THAT PROMOTE SUSTAINABILITY.
PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT: THE INSTITUTE PROVIDES LOCAL OFFICIALS WITH INFORMATION, RESOURCES AND SUPPORT TO DESIGN AND IMPLEMENT EFFECTIVE AND INCLUSIVE PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT WITH THEIR COMMUNITIES. THE WEBSITE, PUBLICATIONS, WORKSHOPS, TRAINING SESSIONS AND OTHER SERVICES OFFERED HELP LOCAL AGENCY DECISIONS BE MORE REFLECTIVE OF THE FULL RANGE OF PUBLIC PREFRENCES WHILE DEVELOPING MORE INFORMED AND INVOLVED RESIDENTS.
LEADERSHIP & GOVERNANCE: THE INSTITUTE INCREASES PUBLIC CONFIDENCE AND TRUST IN THE LOCAL DECISION-MAKING PROCESS BY HELPING LOCAL OFFICIALS UNDERSTAND PUBLIC SERVICE ETHICS PRINCIPLES AND LAWS, AS WELL AS THE TOOLS AVAILABLE TO HELP PROMOTE EFFECTIVE GOVERNANCE.
