Organizations Filed Purposes: TO RAISE PRIVATE PHILANTHROPIC GIFTS THAT SUPPORT NEEDS OF STUDENTS AND FACULTY, IMPROVE STUDENT SUCCESS AND HELP TO PREPARE AN EDUCATED WORKFORCE BY PROVIDING SCHOLARSHIPS AND EMERGENCY GRANTS TO STUDENTS AS WELL AS COLLEGE PROGRAM SUPPORT.

DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, DIRECT STUDENT SUPPORT WAS ESPECIALLY CRITICAL TO HELP KEEP STUDENTS IN SCHOOL AND SUCCEEDING. $109,046.53 WAS AWARDED TO 178 STUDENTS THROUGH THE STUDENT EMERGENCY FUND TO ASSIST WITH BASIC NEEDS SUCH AS HOUSING AND FOOD INSECURITY, A 92% OR 270 STUDENTS INCREASE IN THE AMOUNT SPENT ON STUDENTS OVER THE PRIOR YEAR. SCHOLARSHIP SUPPORT WAS ALSO IMPORTANT AND 843 STUDENTS IN THE FOUR LOS RIOS COLLEGES RECEIVED A SCHOLARSHIP PROVIDED BY GENEROUS INDIVIDUALS, CORPORATIONS, FOUNDATIONS AND EMPLOYEES. SCHOLARSHIPS COVER TUITION FEES, TEXTBOOKS, TRANSPORTATION AND LIVING EXPENSES FOR STUDENTS WITH A HIGH LEVEL OF FINANCIAL NEED AND/OR OUTSTANDING ACADMEIC PERFORMANCE. THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM SUPPORTS DESERVING STUDENTS INCLUDING FOSTER YOUTH, VETERANS, SINGLE PARENTS AND AT-RISK LOW INCOME POPULATIONS.

THE LOS RIOS COLLEGES FOUNDATION PROVIDED SUPPORT TO COLLEGE DEPARTMENTS AND PROGRAMS DURING THE 2019-20 ACADEMIC YEAR. THESE RESOURCES ALLOW COLLEGE FACULTY, STAFF AND ADMINISTRATORS TO IMPROVE EXISTING PROGRAMS, EXPERIMENT WITH NEW AND INNOVATIVE APPROACHES AND SUPPORT STUDENT SUCCESS. THE LOS RIOS COLLEGES FOUNDATION PROVIDES PHILANTHROPIC SUPPORT TO THE FOUR LOS RIOS COLLEGES, AMERICAN RIVER, COSUMNES RIVER, FOLSOM LAKE AND SACRAMENTO CITY, AND THE HARRIS CENTER FOR THE ARTS, BY SERVING AS THE VEHICLE THROUGH WHICH INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS MAY INVEST IN THE LOS RIOS COLLEGES AND STUDENTS.

THIS IS THE INAUGURAL YEAR FOR THE LOS RIOS PROMISE SCHOLARSHIP WHICH PROVIDED $500 SCHOLARSHIPS TOTALING $55,000 TO FIRST-TIME, FULL-TIME STUDENTS WITH HIGH FINANCIAL NEED TO REMOVE BARRIERS TO SUCCESS. GENEROUS CORPORATE AND INDIVIDUAL DONORS COMMITTED TO SCHOLARSHIPS FOR CURRENT STUDENTS AND TO ESTABLISHING THE LOS RIOS PROMISE ENDOWMENT TO SUPPORT STUDENTS IN PERPETUITY. THE FIRST COHORT OF 110 STUDENTS HAD AN 81.6% PERSISTANCE RATE COMPARED TO 66.5% OF THE AVERAGE LOS RIOS STUDENT POPULATION.
