Organizations Filed Purposes: OUR MISSION IS TO ENHANCE THE DIGNITY AND QUALITY OF LIFE OF SACRAMENTO AREA OLDER ADULTS THROUGH NUTRITIONAL PROGRAMS THAT INCLUDE ASSESSMENT OF NEEDS, EDUCATION, SUPPORTIVE SERVICES AND ASSISTANCE TO FAMILIES AND CAREGIVERS.

MOW PROGRAMS CURRENTLY SERVE OVER 2,200 SENIORS THROUGH OUR HOME-DELIVERED MEAL PROGRAM, CONGREGATE NUTRITION PROGRAM, AND EMERGENCY MEAL PROGRAM.MEALS ON WHEELS BY ACC (MOW) ADAPTED ITS SERVICES FOR THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF PARTICIPANTS AS WELL AS STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. DURING THE SIX MONTHS OF GREAT CHALLENGES, MOW STILL SUCCESSFULLY PROVIDED MEALS TO THOUSANDS OF VULNERABLE SENIORS. UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES, MOW SERVES LUNCH FIVE DAYS A WEEK, FREE OF CHARGE, TO APPROXIMATELY 600 PARTICIPANTS AGES 60 AND OVER AT ITS 19 CONGREGATE NUTRITION SITES THROUGHOUT SACRAMENTO COUNTY. WITH ALL THE LUNCH SITES CLOSED DURING THE PANDEMIC, MOW STARTED DELIVERING MEALS TO ALL PARTICIPANTS' HOMES. THE MEAL DELIVERY PROGRAM'S NEW SAFETY MEASURES INCLUDED PLACING MEALS AT PARTICIPANTS' DOORSTEPS AND MOW VOLUNTEERS CHECKING WITH PARTICIPANTS BY PHONE TO PROVIDE WELLNESS CHECKS. THE HOME-DELIVERED MEAL PROGRAM CONTINUED SERVING MEALS FIVE DAYS A WEEK TO OVER 1,350 FRAIL AND HOMEBOUND SENIORS. HOME-DELIVERED MEAL VOLUNTEERS AND STAFF MODIFIED MEAL DELIVERY METHODS TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19. FOR EXAMPLE, TEAM MEMBERS USED PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (E.G., N-95 MASKS, SURGICAL MASKS, GLOVES, AND HAND SANITIZER) AND ADHERED TO SOCIAL DISTANCING GUIDELINES BY PLACING MEALS ON TABLES OR CHAIRS OF PARTICIPANTS INSTEAD OF ENTERING THE HOME. AFTER PLACING MEALS ON A CHAIR/TABLE, HDM DRIVERS STEPPED BACK MORE THAN 6FT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PARTICIPANT. THE FOLLOWING WAS ACCOMPLISHED DURING THE 2019-20 FISCAL YEAR (7/1/19- 6/30/2020): A. MOW SERVED 4,500 UNDUPLICATED SENIORS AND DELIVERED OVER 503,511 MEALS TO CONGREGATE AND HOME-DELIVERED MEAL PARTICIPANTS.B. 400 VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTED OVER 29,335 HOURS OF VOLUNTEER SERVICE TO THE HOME-DELIVERED MEAL PROGRAM AND THE CONGREGATE MEAL PROGRAM.C. NINETY-THREE PERCENT OF SENIORS WHO ATE AT THE ALL SEASONS CAFE SAID THAT THE PROGRAM HELPED THEM MAKE MORE FRIENDS.D. FORTY-THREE PERCENT OF HOME-DELIVERED MEAL PARTICIPANTS SERVED WERE AGED 80 OR OLDER.E. THE HOME-DELIVERED MEAL PROGRAM OPERATED 59 DELIVERY ROUTES THROUGHOUT SACRAMENTO COUNTY.F. THE CONGREGATE MEAL PROGRAM OPERATED 19 ALL SEASONS CAFES.G. MOW PROVIDED CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE MEALS TO JAPANESE/ ASIAN PACIFIC ISLANDER (API) OLDER ADULTS AT TWO JAPANESE CHURCHES IN SACRAMENTO TO IMPROVE MEAL/ PROGRAM SATISFACTION AS WELL AS TO ATTRACT YOUNGER OLDER ADULTS OF JAPANESE/ API ANCESTRY.H. MOW DELIVERED ITS 4.5 MILLIONTH MEAL.I. WITH THE SUPPORT OF LOCAL COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS, LAW ENFORCEMENT, AND EMTS, MOW COULD CONTINUE MEAL DELIVERY OPERATIONS DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.J. MOW PARTNERED WITH THE CITY OF SACRAMENTO AND FIVE LOCAL RESTAURANTS TO DELIVER OVER 5,000 MEALS A WEEK TO 21 SENIOR APARTMENT COMPLEXES DURING THE FIRST TWO MONTHS OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.K. MOW ESTABLISHED A PARTNERSHIP WITH DOORDASH TO DELIVER SHELF-STABLE AND FROZEN MEALS TO OLDER ADULTS THROUGHOUT SACRAMENTO COUNTY.L. SACRAMENTO COUNTY SENIORS WERE UNABLE TO OBTAIN GROCERIES BEFORE THE STAY-AT-HOME-ORDER WENT INTO EFFECT. AS A RESULT, MOW SECURED A GRANT TO SEND GROCERIES VIA AMAZON FRESH TO SENIORS DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.M. MOW LEASED A 3,000-SQ FT FACILITY SO THAT CONGREGATE NUTRITION STAFF MEMBERS COULD PACKAGE AND DELIVER MEALS WHILE ADHERING TO SOCIAL DISTANCING GUIDELINES. ALSO, THE FACILITY IS USED TO STORE FROZEN AND SHELF-STABLE MEALS TO MEET THE INCREASE IN DEMAND FOR CONGREGATE NUTRITION MEALS.N. MOW COLLECTED AND DISTRIBUTED ROUGHLY 1,500 NEW GLOVES, SCARVES, LAP BLANKETS, AND SOCKS TO HOMEBOUND SENIORS DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON.
