OUR MISSION WAS TO IDENTIFY THE MOST PROMISING BREAKTHROUGH RENEWABLE ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES THAT CAN GET PAST DESIGN AND MARKET HURDLES THAT MAY HOLD BACK THEIR USE WORLDWIDE. REII PROVIDES A ROADMAP FOR ATTACKING THE BARRIERS TO THE USE OF THESE PROMISING TECHNOLOGIES AND CREATES A NETWORK OF COLLABORATING INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH ORGANIZATIONS TO IMPLEMENT THE STEPS ALONG THAT PATHWAY TO ACHIEVEMENT.
REII, IN COLLABORATION WITH RED LION BIO-ENERGY AND PACIFIC RENEWABLE FUELS ASSISTED THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY IN DEVELOPING A PILOT, PRE-COMMERCIAL INTEGRATED BIOREFINERY FOR THE PRODUCTION OF HIGH-QUALITY, SYNTHETIC DIESEL FUELS FROM AGRICULTURE AND FOREST RESIDUES. CURRENT, PROVEN UNIT PROCESSES WERE INTEGRATED INTO A PILOT, FULLY INTEGRATED BIOREFINERY PLANT IN TOLEDO, OHIO TO DEMONSTRATE THE EFFICIENT CONVERSION OF 25 DRY TONS PER DAY OF AGRICULTURE AND FOREST BIOMASS RESIDUES INTO SYNTHETIC DIESEL FUEL. INFORMATION GENERATED FROM THIS PILOT FACILITY WILL BE USED FOR THE DESIGN AND DEPLOYMENT OF COMMERCIAL SCALE PLANTS.
