Organizations Filed Purposes:
TO RAISE FUNDS TO SUPPORT AND PROMOTE THE ACTIVITIES AND PROGRAMS OF THE SACRAMENTO PUBLIC LIBRARY AND COMMUNITY LITERACY PROGRAMS.
This year the Foundation granted the Library $142,723 for programs and materials representing a decrease in funding to the library over last year. Of the $142,723, $107,653 came from the Books and Materials Endowment, and the Sacramento Room Endowment dedicated to digitizing the Library's archive. The remaining $35,070 was dedicated to various branch services materials including 2 new electronic book mobiles. The decline in contributions was due to a legal suit filed by the Library against the Foundation. The Foundation, now doing business as the Sacramento Literacy Foundation, conducts the following mission-aligned events and initiatives: the annual events Authors on the Move, Walk4Literacy, and the Big Day of Giving, the Community Literacy Map and the role as Sacramentos official convener Campaign for the campaign Grade-Level Reading. A total of 200 volunteers representing 900 hours helped us advance our mission during these events. Authors on the Move was cancelled this year due to COVID 19. Through the Walk4Literacy, the Foundation partnered with 18 children's literacy organizations to advance the awareness and increase the funding of literacy programs. The Foundation secured corporate funders to maintain the Community Literacy Map which shows exactly where children are reaching grade-level and where they are not. The Big Day of Giving is a community activity to grow community support. The Foundation became the community convener for the National Campaign for Grade-Level. A broader literacy movement is officially developing in Sacramento.
