THE SACRAMENTO PHILHARMONIC & OPERA: FOSTER COMMUNITY, INSPIRE CURIOSITY, ENRICH LIVES.

THE FIFTH CONCERT SEASON OF THE MERGED ORGANIZATION PRESENTED AN OPPORTUNITY TO BRING OUR ORCHESTRA TO NEW PLACES IN SACRAMENTO, DUE TO THE TEMPORARY CLOSURE AND RENOVATION OF OUR NORMAL VENUE. THE SEASON STARTED STRONG, WITH THE ORGANIZATION PRESENTING 4 CONCERT PROJECTS AT 3 DIFFERENT VENUES IN SACRAMENTO BETWEEN OCTOBER 2019 AND FEBRUARY 2020. IN FEBRUARY 2020, THE "1812 OVERTURE" PERFORMED AT SACRAMENTO'S MEMORIAL AUDITORIUM AND THE "MUSIC OF THE SPIRIT" PRESENTED AT THE CATHEDRAL OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT DREW LARGE AUDIENCES. IN MARCH 2020, THE REMAINING SCHEDULED CONCERTS WERE POSTPONED DUE TO THE PANDEMIC. THE ORGANIZATION ADAPTED TO THE DIGITAL ENVIRONMENT, CONTINUED TO PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR THE "LINK UP" EDUCATION PROGRAM, AND BEGAN CREATING DIGITAL CONTENT FOR OUR AUDIENCES AND DONORS TO ACCESS FROM THE SAFETY OF THEIR HOMES. THE ORGANIZATION PERFORMS LIVE PROFESSIONAL SYMPHONIC MUSIC AND OPERA FOR THE SACRAMENTO REGION, CREATES EDUCATIONAL AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE REGION, AND PROVIDES LIVE MUSIC FOR THE SACRAMENTO BALLET.

THE SACRAMENTO REGION PERFORMING ARTS ALLIANCE PARTNERED WITH THE WEILL MUSIC INSTITUTE AT CARNEGIE HALL TO BRING THEIR NATIONAL PROGRAM, LINK UP, TO SACRAMENTO. LINK UP IS A MUSIC EDUCATION CURRICULUM DESIGNED TO TEACH THIRD THROUGH FIFTH GRADERS VIA THEIR CLASSROOM TEACHER, THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR. THIS PROGRAM FILLS THE VOID LEFT BY THE LOSS OF MUSIC EDUCATION PROGRAMS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS. OVER 5,000 STUDENTS FROM AREA SCHOOL DISTRICTS WERE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE THIS SEASON AND TO PROVIDE RECORDERS FOR STUDENTS TO PRACTICE AT HOME. WE CONTINUE TO GROW THIS PROGRAM FOR FUTURE YEARS.

WITH SUPPORT FROM THE CITY OF SACRAMENTO, THE ORGANIZATION CONTINUED OUTREACH TO THE COMMUNITY BY OFFERING A SERIES OF "POP-UP" CREATIVE CONCERTS IN PUBLIC SPACES WITH NO ADMISSION COSTS. THESE FREE CONCERTS ARE AIMED AT ENGAGING THE SACRAMENTO COMMUNITY IN MUSIC, THROUGH PERFORMANCE AND PARTICIPATION IN OUR "INSTRUMENT DISCOVERY ZONES". THE PROGRAM TOUCHES ON ALL OF THE COUNCIL DISTRICTS WITH A SPECIFIC FOCUS ON REVITALIZATION OF THE "PROMISE ZONE", A HIGH-POVERTY COMMUNITY DESIGNATED WITHIN THE CITY OF SACRAMENTO. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO EXTENDS THIS PROGRAM BY CREATING PARTNERSHIPS WITH OTHER ENTITIES TO PERFORM "POP-UP" CONCERTS FOR SPECIAL EVENTS.
