Organizations Filed Purposes: Valley CAN is committed to improving air quality in California's San Joaquin Valley. We promote voluntary actions to reduce air pollution and sponsor pilot programs and educational efforts dedicated to providing solutions to high emissions sources.

Promote the reduction of air pollution through education, outreach, and research.

Tune in and Tune Up: Held 16 in-person and 7 virtual Tune in and Tune Up events at which free emissions testing was performed for vehicles. Provided vouchers for up to $500 in free emissions related repairs at a local STAR-certified smog shop. The program efficiently converts program funds into quantifiable emissions reductions. $1 million in Tune In & Tune Up spending produces 1,150 repairs resulting in approximate annual reductions of 65 tons of carbon monoxide, 8.5 tons of hydrocarbon and 7 tons of nitrogen oxide. Tune In & Tune Up has been shown to be among the most cost-effective methods to reduce vehicle emissions in California.

Vehicle Replacement Program: Held 16 events which assisted vehicle owners in replacing old, high emitting passenger vehicles with efficient and technologically advanced vehicles with a variety of incentives ranging from $2,500 to $9,500, depending on the income level of the participant and the vehicle being purchased or leased. All vehicles replaced were destroyed and recycled to ensure no future operation.

Education, advocacy, and outreach: Advocated for the enhanced fleet modernization program, Volkswagen settlement, and AB 193. Conducted research on smog repairs and social justice. Provided consulting on the CARB One-Stop Shop Pilot Project. Provided technical and programmatic assistance related to the development of the emPower outreach program.
