Organizations Filed Purposes:
Loaves, Fishes and Computers (LFC) mission is to help local individuals and families overcome the digital and economic divides by providing low-to-no-cost computer systems, digital literacy classes, hands-on technology workshops, and technology assistance/computer repair for low-income individuals, families, seniors, veterans, children, people with disabilities and nonprofit organizations, while providing volunteers an encouraging and gratifying place to learn about Computer Science and Information Technology.Computers are donated to us by local individuals, schools, and businesses, and in turn, volunteers of all skill levels clean and rebuild them into working systems, complete with monitor, keyboard, mouse, and software. We then provide a qualifying low-income family or individual with a ready-to-use modern computer to help them achieve their goals of job search, career advancement, education or connection with family, friends, services, or agencies that can provide additional assist
Community Supported Digital Inclusion and Computer Reuse Program to low income families and individuals: As the only nonprofit in Monterey and San Benito counties in the Microsoft Registered Refurbisher program, LFC has provided over 7,613 computer systems to economically disadvantaged and under-served individuals and families since 2009. In 2019, we provided qualifying families, individuals and youth with 1,226 computers at either substantially discounted prices or at no cost assisting over ~5,394 household members.
Volunteer Career Training, Job Exposure, and Community Engagement:In 2019, LFC provided a welcoming, energized center where 236 multi-ethnic and age diverse volunteers participated in LFC's initiatives, offered services to our low-income residents, and assisted in LFCs administrative and business operations. Our volunteers gained valuable technical, business and administrative skills appropriate for career exploration, career development, and higher education advancement. They also learned problem-solving skills and how to work collaboratively as well as independently as they engage in exciting new education and career opportunities. 20,578 volunteer hours were logged and approved in advancing the mission of LFC.
INSTRUCTIONIN 2019, LFC helped Monterey County individuals and families to gain a more solid digital literacy foundation by organizing and teaching in-depth, (171) digital literacy classes on the Chromebook platform at schools, nonprofits and libraries by teaching over 300 adults. LFC also hosts Together & Connected, Parent & Child workshops with the objective to convince more parents to enroll in in-depth computer literacy classes. In 2019, LFC hosted (19) workshops to ~456 parents and children.
