BUILD A MIRACLE PROVIDES SAFE, DIGNIFIED HOMES TO IMPOVERISHED FAMILIES IN TIJUANA, MEXICO. IN ADDITION, BUILD A MIRACLE PROVIDES NUMEROUS EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES INCLUDING: TUTORING, VOCATIONAL TRAINING, SCHOLARSHIPS, COMPUTER LABS AND AN ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAM.

BUILDING PROGRAM: IN 2019 BUILD A MIRACLE BUILT 39 NEW HOMES AND COMPLETED VARIOUS REPAIRS AND IMPROVEMENTS TO HOMES BELONGING TO DOZENS OF IMPOVERISHED FAMILIES INCLUDING SPACE FOR SMALL BUSINESSES TO HELP FAMILIES GENERATE INCOME. ALL FAMILIES PARTICIPATE IN EDUCATION PROGRAMS. THE FAMILIES RECEIVE 500 SQUARE FOOT HOMES WITH 2 OR 3 BEDROOMS, INDOOR PLUMBING, KITCHEN, BATHROOM AND LIVING/DINING ROOM. THEY EARN THEIR HOMES WITH A MINIMUM OF 500 HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE BUT MOST REMAIN INVOLVED IN OUR PROGRAMS INDEFINITELY OR EVEN START THEIR OWN INITIATIVES LIKE FEEDING THE KIDS WHO LIVE IN THE DUMP. THE HOMES ARE BUILT DURING "BUILD DAYS" WHEN AMERICAN AND LOCAL VOLUNTEERS MIX CONCRETE, HAMMER NAILS AND PAINT, AND DURING THE WORK WEEK BY PAID, EXPERIENCED BUILDERS.
EDUCATION: OUR GOAL IS FOR THE NEXT GENERATION TO BE ABLE TO AFFORD THEIR OWN HOME AND OUR ACADEMIC, SCHOLARSHIP, TRADE AND ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAMS ARE GEARED TO MAKE THAT POSSIBLE. THE PEOPLE WE SERVE GAIN SKILLS AND THE CONFIDENCE NECESSARY TO BUILD A BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR THEMSELVES, THEIR FAMILIES AND THEIR COMMUNITY. DURING 2019 WE PROVIDED HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS TO 48 STUDENTS AND COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS TO 60 STUDENTS. BY THE END OF THE YEAR THERE WERE 22 TOTAL COLLEGE GRADUATES. AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER, OVER 1,500 PEOPLE CAME EACH WEEK TO LEARN TRADES, ATTEND ADULT ELEM, MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL, RECEIVE TUTORING, COUNSELING AND PARTICIPATE IN DOZENS OF PROGRAMS INCLUDING SPORTS, FITNESS, ROBOTICS, NUTRITION & MANY MORE; OVER 100 CHILDREN RECEIVE A HEALTHY MEAL EACH DAY THAT THEY PARTICIPATE AT THE CENTER.
OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES: IN 2019 BUILD A MIRACLE PROVIDED RELIEF AID TO FAMILIES NEEDING TO TRAVEL DUE TO FAMILY ILLNESSES, PROVIDED PAYMENT ASSISTANCE FOR UTILITIES, PROVIDED LEGAL ASSISTANCE, AND HELPED WOMEN FROM THE SEWING PROGRAM SELL THEIR PRODUCTS. ADDITIONALLY, BUILD A MIRACLE PROVIDED SCHOLARSHIP ASSISTANCE TO 5 CHILDREN IN GUATEMALA WHO LOST FAMILY MEMBERS, THE BREADWINNERS, TO DROWNING. OTHER NEW PROGRAMS IN 2019 INCLUDE DENTAL AND VISION CARE FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO CANNOT AFFORD IT ON THEIR OWN AND SUPPORT FOR ONE OF OUR HOMEOWNERS WITH EDUCATIONAL SUPPLIES AND FOOD, WHO BEGAN HIS OWN PROGRAM PROVIDING EDUCATION AND SUSTENANCE TO THE LARGELY FORGOTTEN CHILDREN OF TRASH-PICKERS WHO LIVE AT THE MUNICIPAL DUMP.
