Children of the Immaculate Heart exists to promote the dignity of the human person and to uphold the goodness and beauty of both the masculine and feminine genius. Specifically, Children of the Immaculate Heart serves men, women, and children who are vulnerable due to human trafficking, the commercial sexual exploitation of children, pornography, and the contraceptive and abortion industries. Because human trafficking relies upon the pornography, contraceptive, and abortion industries, CIH seeks to evangelize both the individual human heart and society as a whole so that the aforementioned evils might no longer be causing damage to individuals and our country as a whole. St. Bakhita's Womens Program This program is for trafficked adult women and their children. Our adult program provides housing, case management, therapy, transportation, mentorship, life skills, assistance with education, job training, legal counsel, and help with other basic needs in accordance with the needs of each client. In 2019, we served nine women and their children in San Diego County. We added services including housing assistance, commuting assistance, child welfare support such as food and babysitting services and professional trauma therapy services. Since they were first assisted, these women have made emotional, psychological, economic, and life - skill improvements. For example, the women have developed skills in handling their anger and are growing in their ability to trust others after having been so severely betrayed. Many have been able to enter the workforce or attend/graduate from school.
The RefugeIn June 2019 we officially moved to remove the legal obstacles preventing the refuge from opening. Having officially received a letter of support from San Diegos Child Welfare Services, Probation, and Behavioral Health, which allowed us to move forward with formally applying for our license with Community Care Licensing to open a Short Term Residential Therapeutic Program for trafficked minor girls between the ages of 12 and 17. For the last six months of the year, we had to wait for our application to be reviewed in Sacramento. We are excited to be able to soon open our residential, therapeutic, and educational program for these youth who are so in need.
