Organizations Filed Purposes:
Provide space for 12 congregations to worship, conduct religious education, conduct ministries and provide fellowship. Provide office space for 12 charities or non-profits to operate and provide services such as food, clothing, counseling or other assistance.
A dozen congregations conduct worship at CMC each week. Four of these congregations formed Exodus UMC in February 2015 including African American, Hispanic, Haitian and the legacy congregation of Christ UMC (now called Christ Chapel). The remaining congregations reflect a diversity in Christian communities, including Adventists, Marshallese UCC, Eritrean Christian, AME Zion, and several small independent fellowships. Approximately 400 people in these dozen congregations worship each week in CMC's Sanctuary, Chapel, or other facilities.
Provided a base of operations for charitable and community non-profit organizations engaged in public benefit ministries, especially relief of the poor, distressed and underprivileged, including over a dozen public benefit organizations working for the social, cultural and environmental betterment of the community, a three-day-a-week food ministry provided food and other staples to 5,903 households, with a total of 25,586 individuals, and three free medical clinics, one of which had over 1,270 patient encounters at CMC. This resulted in an estimated $300,000 savings for San Diego County Emergency Rooms.
Created and maintained a mechanism to harness the resources of existing non-profit charities and churches in the San Diego area which enables them more efficiency and effectiveness in helping the helpless, including Collective Impact Center (co-work) and a shelter for over 1,000 asylum seekers in 2019.
