Enrich the lives of todays and tomorrows passionate music lovers by connecting them to the genius and innovation of Mozart and the Masters, to world-class musicians and music-making, and to each other.
Classical programming and core series Since 1989, Mainly Mozarts annual May-June Festival has brought the largest assemblage of concertmasters and principal players from the nations leading orchestras to San Diego, while attracting over 10000 residents and visitors. Mainly Mozarts January-June chamber music series, Spotlight, presents world class chamber musicians performing Mozart and the Masters in intimate settings in intermission free concerts preceded by social mixers and followed by lively discussions between artists and audience. As a result of Covid-19 restrictions, with all venues closed, programming ceased between April and June, resuming in July with drive-in concert series held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, featuring small ensembles. The annual June orchestral Festival occurred in October 2020.
MMYO is a year round education and performance program committed not only to teaching music, but to building well rounded citizens, offering six different ensembles Suzuki Strings, Beginning Strings, Intermediate Strings, Concert Band, Intermediate Orchestra, and Advanced Orchestra. A strong inclusion policy that integrates young musicians of all ethnicities, abilities and musical backgrounds, provides students with solo, chamber,and orchestral performance opportunities throughout San Diego and Baja California, as well as the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to rehearse and perform side-by-side with the Mainly Mozart Festival Orchestra, MMYO joins forces with students from Tijuanas Centro de Artes Musicales to form the Youth Orchestra of the Californias, fostering international understanding in our youth. Outreach concerts for children and adults including seniors and homeless are performed year round. During Covid-19, in-person outdoor, socially-distanced rehearsals continued, with addl instruction and master classes conducted online. Several live-streamed concerts were also produced
Innovative programming designed to celebrate the creativity of Mozart Mozart and the Mind Exploring the Music Brain Effect brings together leading music brain researchers, music therapists, neuroscientists, musicians, and the general public in presentations, concerts, and open air events that explore musics effects on cognitive function. While Mozart the Mind events are paused during the pandemic, extensive programming planning and development are being conducted through Zoom meetings with experts throughout the US.
