Mid-City Community Music (MCCM) is dedicated to changing lives through the power of art and music in San Diego's Mid-City neighborhoods. Events are offered on a low-cost, sliding-scale basis in some of San Diego's most ethnically diverse and economically disadvantaged neighborhoods to community members who would not otherwise have the opportunity to learn to play an instrument, sing and play in a group, or perform on stage. Program services include affordable private and group music lessons, teen and adult performance workshops, weekly jam sessions, and free community concerts on a quarterly basis. MCCM also provides arts workshops to the San Diego County Office of Education's Juvenile Court and Community Schools (JCCS). Art and music workshops are held during and after school, and students are encouraged to participate in regular showcase events for the community.

Since its inception as the House of Strings in 1974 the organization has been a torchbearer of traditional music. Today MCCM offers performance workshops, group and private lessons, weekly jam sessions, quarterly community concerts, online instruction and a robust teen program serving urban teens at half a dozen sites including two Juvenile Court facilities. Events are offered on a low-cost, sliding-scale basis in some of San Diego's most ethnically diverse and economically disadvantaged neighborhoods to community members who would not otherwise have the opportunity to learn to play an instrument, sing and play in a group, or perform on stage.
MCCM provided over 775 teaching hours of music instruction to residents in San Diego's Mid-City Neighborhoods. Activities included group lessons, private lessons, a scholarship program, adult performance workshops, free teen band workshops, open jam sessions, an artist in residency program, and six free community concerts.Venues included: The City Heights Performance Annex and MCCM's main campus.
MCCM provided 541 teaching hours of music and arts after-school workshops in Juvenile Court schools in partnership with the San Diego County Office of Education and the California Arts Council. Venues included: 37ECB Community School in City Heights and Bayside Community School in Logan Heights. Topics included: Guitar, ukulele, drawing, poetry, multimedia arts, DJing, and rock band performance.
