My Green Lab works to reduce the environmental impact of research laboratories through the reduction of energy, water, waste, and toxic chemical use. We educate scientists and develop the standards by which all labs should operate.
Green Lab Programs: My Green Lab developed a global standard for laboratory sustainability, our green lab certification. At the end of 2019 we were either directly responsible, or provided significant support for certifying labs and providing green lab program support at UCSD, UCSC, UCB, UCI, Stanford, the University of Alabama, Birmingham, MIT, AstraZeneca, Amyris, and the NUI Galway among others.
ACT Eco-Label: My Green Lab established the first eco-label for laboratory products at the end of 2017. In 2019 we worked with manufacturers and life science organizations to promote sustainable procurement in laboratories. At the end of 2019 we had over 220 products ACT labeled and we worked with over 20 institutions whose outstanding leadership efforts in sustainable procurement were recognized at an international conference.
Green Lab Outreach: My Green Lab strives to provide clear, comprehensive information about best practices for sustainability in the lab. In addition to giving seminars at various organizations across North America, in 2019 My Green Lab attended six large conferences (CHESC, SfN, ASCB, ACS, I2SL and AASHE) and gave formal presentations at three of them (CHESC, AASHE, I2SL). My Green Lab's Green Lab Certification is recognized as a standard by AASHE, and many of our outreach activities support laboratory certification.
