Organizations Filed Purposes: A CATALYST FOR CELEBRATION OF AMERICA'S PAST AND PROMISE, THE MUSEUM PROVIDES INSPIRING EDUCATIONAL AND CULTURAL PROGRAMS TO HONOR OUR DIVERSE IMMIGRANT EXPERIENCES.

THE 2019 YEAR WAS A PRODUCTIVE AND SUCCESSFUL YEAR FOR NEW AMERICANS MUSEUM PROGRAMMING. THE MUSEUM (NAM) CURATED AND PRESENTED 4 EXHIBITS THAT WERE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC FREE OF CHARGE. THESE INCLUDED A MAJOR EXHIBITION ENTITLED IMMIGRANT VOICES PROFILING 50+ AMERICAN IMMIGRANTS THROUGHOUT THE REGION WITH A MULTIMEDIA INSTALLATION IN THE GALLERIES, AND IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE LOCAL NEWSPAPER: SD UNION TRIBUNE; THE MUSEUM ALSO HOSTED A LAOTIAN COMMUNITY-FOCUSED TRAVELLING EXHIBITION BETWEEN TWO WORLDS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE LAO CENTER. THE MUSEUM ALSO HOSTED ITS ANNUAL DAY OF THE DEAD COMMUNITY SITE SPECIFIC INSTALLATION FEATURING ORIGINAL ARTWORK AND INCLUDED A TRADITIONAL ALTAR IN THE GALLERIES COMMEMORATING THE LUCHA LIBRE POPULAR CULTURE SPORT AND ICONS, WITH EDUCATIONAL TALKS AND WORKSHOP. NAM CONCLUDED ITS ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM WITH KERIANNE QUICK, WHO BEGAN THE PROCESS OF CREATING AND DESIGNING THE EXHIBIT [A] PORTRAIT OF PEOPLE IN MOTION IN 2018 AND INSTALLED IT AND OPENED AT THE MUSEUM IN THE FALL OF 2019. IN ADDITION, NAM DESIGNED AND HOSTED A MICROENTERPRISE TRAINING PROGRAM CALLED MICRO-NAM TEACHING IMMIGRANTS AND REFUGEES SMALL BUSINESS PRACTICES AS WELL AS CREATIVE SECTOR SKILLS IN SEWING, KNITTING, JEWELRY DESIGN ALONG WITH TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE ON BUSINESS START UP PRACTICES CLASSES. THIS WAS HELD IN VARIOUS LOW INCOME IMMIGRANT NEIGHBORHOODS AND IN PARTNERSHIP WITH NON PROFIT COMMUNITY CENTERS AND LOCAL LIBRARIES. 2019 HELD THE MUSEUM'S SECOND SOIRE FUNDRAISER, DISCOVER AMERICA THROUGH FOOD: HONORING THE STORIES OF NEW AMERICAN CHEFS. A FUNDRAISING DINNER BY FIVE OF THE REGION'S MOST PROMINENT IMMIGRANT CHEFS AND INCLUDED AN AUCTION WHICH RAISED FUNDS FOR THE MUSEUM'S EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING. THE MUSEUM CONTINUED WITH ITS STORY COLLECTIONS FOR THE ORAL HISTORIES ARCHIVING, ADDING NARRATIVES, BY IMMIGRATION FRONT LINE STAFF, AND STUDENT DIGITIZING PROJECTS INCLUDING HOSTING STUDENT INTERNSHIPS, FELLOWSHIPS AND MANY STUDENT SCHOOL TOURS.
