Opera NEO is an opera company and training program created for the new generation of opera singers. As the only company in the San Diego area that performs fully staged operas during the summer months, Opera Neo fills an important niche in the city's cultural landscape. We present live opera performances in intimate venues, offer innovative interpretations of the works performed, and feature young, emerging artists and unique programming. Our commitment to historically informed musical performance, coupled with thought-provoking, relevant staging, makes what we do unique in the San Diego community and beyond.
Each year, Opera Neo holds highly competitive national auditions for over 500 young singers, pianists, conductors, stage managers, and stage directors. 30-35 selected artists come to San Diego for 5 weeks of intensive professional training, mentoring, and performance opportunities. Live auditions are held in San Diego and 13 additional cities across the country. Opera Neo helps young artists of extraordinary promise to bridge the gap between their academic experience and the expectations of the professional opera world.
