THE MUSEUM PRESERVES AND DISPLAYS EXHIBITS AND ARTIFACTS OF HISTORICAL AVIATION AND SPACE SIGNIFICANCE. MORE THAN 280,000 PEOPLE VISIT THE MUSEUM EACH YEAR AND OVER 30,000 HOURS OF SUPPORT ARE CONTRIBUTED BY VOLUNTEERS.

THE MUSEUM'S LIBRARY AND ARCHIVES IS THE LARGEST OF ITS KIND IN THE NATION AND OFFERS RESEARCH ASSISTANCE TO STUDENT, AUTHORS AND HISTORIANS AMONG OTHERS.THE LIBRARY & ARCHIVES OF THE SAN DIEGO AIR & SPACE MUSEUM ACTIVELY ENCOURAGES THE USE OF THE MUSEUM'S RESEARCH MATERIALS TO FURTHER THE PUBLIC'S EDUCATION OF AVIATION AND SPACE HISTORY AND TECHNOLOGY. THE MISSION STATEMENT OF THE LIBRARY & ARCHIVES REFLECTS THIS GOAL: THE MISSION OF THE LIBRARY & ARCHIVES AT THE SAN DIEGO AIR & SPACE MUSEUM IS TO COLLECT, PRESERVE AND MAKE AVAILABLE FOR RESEARCH PUBLISHED, DOCUMENTARY, AND VISUAL MATERIALS THAT CHRONICLE THE DEVELOPMENT OF AIR & SPACE TECHNOLOGY AND EXPERIENCE.THE LIBRARY & ARCHIVES SERVES AS REPOSITORY FOR SEVERAL TYPES OF HISTORICAL AND CONTEMPORARY PUBLICATIONS AND RECORDS RELATED TO AVIATION AND SPACE HISTORY, AND INCLUDING TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS OF AIRCRAFT. THE MAIN FOCUS OF THIS WORLD CLASS COLLECTION IS AVIATION-RELATED MATERIALS WITH AN EMPHASIS ON AEROSPACE VEHICLES, EVENTS, AND INDIVIDUALS ASSOCIATED WITH THE GEOGRAPHICAL AREA OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA.

THE MUSEUM OFFERS A VARIETY OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN INCLUDING GROUP TOURS, CLASSES AND SUMMER CAMPS.EDUCATION IS THE NUMBER ONE PRIORITY OF THE SAN DIEGO AIR & SPACE MUSEUM. THROUGH OUR GUIDED TOURS, MUSEUM CLASSES, OUTREACH PROGRAMS, COMPETITIONS AND MUCH MORE, VISITORS OF ALL AGES CAN BE INSPIRED AND EDUCATED IN SCIENCE, HISTORY, TECHNOLOGY, ART AND WORLD CULTURE.THE SAN DIEGO AIR & SPACE MUSEUM OFFERS A VARIETY OF GROUP AND INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITIES THAT ARE TAILORED TO MEET THE NEEDS OF SPECIFIC GRADE LEVELS.
