Accomplishments: Since its inception in 1998, the Police Foundation has granted over 8 million dollars to fund equipment, training, and outreach programs in support of the San Diego Police Department. Examples of projects funded in the last year include: 334 Rifle-Resistant Bullet Proof Vests for officer safety Software to assist in traffic accident investigations Five tablet style portable computers to aid in homicide investigations 92 Adjustable height work surfaces for increased efficiency, and workplace comfort and safety Virtual Reality Training Handsets and headsets for use with more visually realistic training scenarios 15 Armored Shields to protect officers responding to critical incidents Training Rescue mannequins, and Adult and Infant CPR training mannequins to replace aging and non-American Heart Association compliant units Communication Headset Systems for motorcycle Unit to allow communications over a non-emergency frequency Peer to Peer Support training and Police Record Supervisor Training to increase officer effectiveness One narcotics canine, one tech detection canine for the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Taskforce, and 14 canines for the K9 Unit Bite Suit Cuffs and First Aid Kits for Canines for the K9 Unit Civilianized uniforms for the Homeless Outreach Teams to distinguish them from their law enforcement counterparts Tripod Mounting Scopes for SWAT Sniper Teams A boat collar to replace the aging and damaged collar, extending the working life of the boat that patrols the beaches A Polaris Off-Road vehicle for the Balboa Park patrol team to allow enhanced access to the canyons and trails to enforce quality of life violations, keeping the park safer for all Two Honda Ranchers for Northern Beach Team for enhanced patrolling of the beaches.
