Valley Family Center was founded in 1987 with the mission to provide counseling and educational services that facilitate personal growth, strengthen the family unit, and protect human dignity for all persons in need. Valley Family Center is a non-profit organization that is committed to making these services accessible to the low-income community of the San Fernando Valley who could not afford these services otherwise. All programs are designed to build self-esteem, encourage self-sufficiency and help clients reach their full potential. The Center is located in San Fernando, CA and provides programs six days per week. The Center is supported primarily through private donations, grants and client fees (set on a sliding scale) and fundraising events. The Center is located in San Fernando, CA and provides programs six days per week. The Center is supported primarily through private donations, grants and client fees (set on a sliding scale) and fundraising events. During the 2019-2020 program year, the Center served 857 unduplicated clients through counseling and educational services provided in English and Spanish. An additional 3,613 were served through outreach and educational presentations. Over 16,596 hours of assistance were provided to the community. Eighty volunteers provided over 1,668 hours of service to the Center. Below are detailed highlights of the Center's accomplishments from key programs from July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020:The Center served 520 individuals through the counseling program, helping clients deal with relationship issues, depression and domestic violence. Of those served, 476 were served in individual, couple or family therapy and 44 attended support groups on special topics including sexual abuse awareness for adults and social skills groups for children. The Victims of Domestic Violence program served 141 adults and 15 children who are victims of domestic violence or sexual abuse through case management, individual and family counseling, and support groups.The Batterers Intervention Program served 188 perpetrators of abuse through weekly support groups last year. The Parent Education programs 16, 26 and 52-week courses served 147 parents.Twenty-nine struggling students were served by the after-school tutoring and enrichment program. Students worked on core academic subjects and completed STEM projects.
