Organizations Filed Purposes:
To plan, promote and sustain a connected 550-mile hiking, cycling and equestrian trail on the ridge lines above the San Francisco Bay -- linking people, parks and open spaces for today and future generations.
Plan, build, promote and maintain the Bay Area Ridge Trail. When complete, the Ridge Trail will extend 550 miles and connect over 75 parks and open space preserves in the 9-county Bay Area. At the end of 2019, 380 miles were dedicated. The Council celebrated its 30th anniversary with a Trail Challenge that engaged over 1,775 people. A new Guidebook and new on-line maps were released to help people enjoy the Trail. In 2019, the Council dedicated 4 miles of Ridge Trail in Napa and San Francisco and supported partners in 3 major land acquisitions that will result in more than 8 new RT miles. The Council hosted 15 trail service projects with over 2,330 volunteer hours of trail work. The Council also hosted more than 28 guided trail outings, with events all around the region helping 1,427 people connect to, and become stewards for the Ridge Trail. Events included 5 overnight outings, and many guided outings along our future route, on properties not yet open to the public.
