California ChangeLawyers believes that a state as diverse as California needs a justice system led by advocates of all ethnicities and races. This is why we invest in bright, diverse scholars, to ensure they have the opportunity to become tomorrow's legal changemakers. Our three main grants programs are pipeline grants, fellowships, and scholarships. These allow us to deliver on the original American value, Justice for All. In 2019, California ChangeLawyers invested $787,855 in the next generation of lawyers, judges and activists.
California ChangeLawyers is a statewide foundation that empowers the next generation of lawyers, judges, and activists to create a more diverse legal profession, a fair justice system, and a better California.
California ChangeLawyers awards scholarships to first and third year law students from diverse backgrounds at California law schools. By supporting the brightest change makers of tomorrow as they begin their pursuit of a legal career, we eliminate the roadblocks that exist in achieving success. In 2019, California ChangeLawyers distributed $379,310 in Diversity Scholarships to 58 deserving students.
California ChangeLawyers award pipeline grants to organizations that target high school and college-aged students from diverse background who are interested in pursuing a legal career. In addition, California ChangeLawyers awards fellowship grants to legal aid agencies to cover the cost of hiring law students and recent grads from diverse backgrounds. By supporting these organizations, we replace the cycle of inequality with a pipeline of young, bright, eager students with the diverse perspectives required to create a more just California. In 2019, California ChangeLawyers distributed $355,017 in grants, supporting diversity pipeline programs and access to justice initiatives across rural California.
Law Fellows: California ChangeLawyers created in-house fellowship programs to help launch the careers of the next generation of legal changemakers. Our two programs were the Network for Justice Fellowship and Immigrant Integration Fellowship. Respectively, the fellows worked on issues related to Latinx civil rights and state policy to facilitate the inclusion of immigrants into California civic life.
