Organizations Filed Purposes:
Crowded Fire provides Community Services by (i) developing, discovering,and presenting new theater that is innovative in both structure and content; (ii) privileging a plurality of voices and experiences on our stage through the selection of material by and about those in under-represented and/or disenfranchised communities; and (iii) supporting artists at all stages of their career.
Crowded Fire's ensemble produces poetic, bold theater created by new and contemporary artists. We seek to engage our community by producing adventurous work,innovative in structure, which addresses the diverse political and social concerns of our audiences.
All program services are directly related to developing and presenting new plays as described in Crowded Fire's mission. In 2019, Crowded Fire produced two mainstage theatrical productions at the Potrero Stage -- INKED BABY and TRANSFERS -- while developing new plays for future years, including Star Finch's SHIPPING AND HANDLING. These plays were produced and developed throughout the year with the support of our staff, guest artists, and Resident Artists. This Resident Artist community included 2 mentees, furthering our commitment to supporting artists at all stages of their careers. More support for artists and artisans was provided by the Ignite Fund, a grant that Crowded Fire administrates that provides vital support for a diverse group of theater technicians and designers to further their careers.
