Organizations Filed Purposes: To provide services to seniors that promote independent living while maintaining their dignity and self-esteem.

During the fiscal year 2019-2020Curry Senior Center served approximately 2,500 older adults (age 55 and older) and provided a range of health, social services, nutrition and housing support. And the 2019-20 year could also be considered in two separate phases, before and after Covid-19. Once the San Francisco Public Health Officers declared shelter in place in mid-March, Curry, an essential services provider, changed in person care to urgent issues only. Seniors who have urgent health, financial or nutritional needs continue to receiver in-person services. The remainder of the seniors are served via phone or Zoom. Core activities include:Case Management The Curry Senior Center Case Management team links elders to appropriate support, enabling them to remain living independently in their home. This includes assistance with receiving meals, homemaking, benefit paperwork, housing applications and much more. In 2019-20, 261 clients benefitted from case management sessions, including 9 homeless seniors who were housed. The program also scheduled escorts and rides to appointments, coordinating, on average, 121 rides per month. During Covid, in-person meetings were greatly reduced, provided only to those with financial or nutritional needs. Staff visited homeless seniors in the shelter-in-place hotels, coordinating transition to a permanent residences. Community Services Senior CenterThe Community Services or Senior Center Programs include a wide range of socialization, education, nutrition, translation and computer services to the Tenderloin's multi-ethnic community. Programs are provided in partnership with the Community Living Campaign, Community Technology Network, Open House, Self-Help for the Elderly, and the Shanti Project. Staff also assist with translation in the Primary Care Clinic to ensure accurate communication between medical providers and clients. A new program, Ageless, began January 1, 2020 to address the social needs of the Transgender Community. During the year 314 seniors received 4,501 hours of service. Since Covid the Senior Center has been closed to group programming. Translation services continue with appropriate safety measures and a new delivery program was started for those seniors sheltering in place. Technology At HomeCurrys Senior Vitality Program reduces isolation and improves health outcomes by providing a computer tablet, software for health management, social media connectivity and training. Seniors are also provided with connections and internet at home. During Covid all in-person tech classes were converted to online classes. A YouTube channel was also created for continued access to tech education. Behavioral Health ProgramsCurry Senior Centers Behavioral Health Program includes both Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services. Both services include individual and group counseling sessions as well as home visits to frail and homebound elders. In FY 2019-20, clients participated in 1,072 individual sessions and 805 group sessions. Since Covid the group sessions have been cancelled and the majority of one-to-one sessions have transitioned to both phone and telehealth calls. Primary Health Care ServicesPrimary care services include a range of primary medical care services provided by physicians and nurse practitioners in the clinic and in clients homes, as well as Podiatry, Medication Management and Ophthalmological diagnostic testing. During 2019-20, 1,190 patients were seen averaging 5.1 visits per year. During Covid patients were urged not to come in for appointments unless they had an urgent need. The medical providers moved many appointments to phone calls, while continuing the home visits. Home-based Supportive ServicesCurry provides a variety of home-based services including on-site supportive activities to formerly homeless residents at the Cadillac Hotel. In early 2020, an additional 40 homeless seniors became residents at the Cadillac Hotel. Currys Wellness Nursing program is based at two senior hotels. Senior Housing Curry Senior Center provides 13 units of permanent housing for formerly homeless seniors. During 2019-20, the overall occupancy rate was 100%. Dining RoomCongregate meals are provided twice daily 365 days/year. In 2019-20, 2,543 seniors participated with 43,565 breakfast meals served and 67,974 lunch meals served. Total meals served was 111,539. Since Covid began, congregate meals have been converted to to-go meals Outreach and EngagementCurrys Peer Outreach Program reaches out and connects with older adults, who live alone, reducing their social isolation. Currys on-site Drop-In Center is a low-threshold program for homeless and isolated seniors. During the 2019-20 year 367 seniors were served by these programs. The Drop-In Center reduced client participation to small groups of four people only.
