Organizations Filed Purposes:
Raise funds for the City's municipal, open-admission animal shelter and its rescue partners in order to enhance or establish programs and services that benefit animals, and serve and educate the public.
FUNDRAISING AND OUTREACH: In FY 2018, Friends embarked on a $4.3 million comprehensive capital campaign to support our current programs and a new state-of-the-art animal service and rescue facility for San Francisco Animal Care and Control (SFACC). This involved new marketing initiatives to build excitement and awareness for the new facility and current and new programs Friends of San Francisco Animal Care & Control provides for the community. We also added significant efforts to growing our donor base. ANIMAL BEHAVIOR AND TRAINING (B&T). Friends continued to fund the shelter's B&T effort, which provides assessment, training, socialization, special treats and toys, and field trips for the shelter animals to improve their behavior, well-being and "adoptability". Friends funding in this area also provided consultants and training for the shelter volunteers in areas such as senior dog/cast, shy dog/cat handling puppy/kitten care, dog clicker games and cat handling. ANIMAL RESCUE PARTNER GRANTS: The shelter's success is partly due to its partnerships with other non-profit animal rescue organizations. Friends disbursed grants to approximately 22 rescue partners serving a range of animals including cats, dogs, rabbits, birds, rodents, reptiles, and other wildlife. These grants help offset the cost of training and medical care for the animals the rescue partners take from the shelter. VETERINARY SERVICES AND SUPPLIES. Friends continued to provide emergency medical funding for some animals requiring extraordinary veterinary care. During the year, Friends paid for one medical emergency procedure and provided funds for necropsy services to support animal abuse cases. Friends continued to underwrite the shelter's quarterly Low-Cost Rabies/Microchip Clinics, paying for the rabies vaccine and microchips, as well as for the outside (non-shelter) veterinarians and veterinary technicians who work at the clinics. Each clinic provided rabies vaccinations and subdermal microchip IDs.
