The Friends of the Tony Patino Fellowship is a supporting organization of the Tony Patino Fellowship Trust charged with funding the Selection Day activities and awards and the board of directors meetings for the screening and selection process of applicants for the award. Specific benefits provided by the Tony Patio Fellowship include:Each Fellow-Elect receives a financial stipend of at least $10,000 per year for his/her law school education. TO ENCOURAGE AND PROVIDE SUPPORT TO LAW SCHOOL STUDENTS WHO HAVE DEMONSTRATED A CONCERN FOR THE WORLD AROUND THEM. THE PROCESS INVOLVES INTERVIEWING AND SCREENING PROSPECTIVE CANDIDATES.The Tony Patio Fellowship is a merit scholarship awarded to law students who demonstrate leadership, a commitment to public service, and outstanding academic and personal achievement. The Fellowship is offered through three law schools: Columbia Law School; University of California Hastings College of the Law, and the University of Chicago Law School. The Fellowship is among the largest privately-offered merit awards for law students in the country, and has awarded more than $4 million in grants to more than 200 Fellows since its founding in 1974.There are over 200 Tony Patio Fellows working and contributing to their communities worldwide. Tony Patio Fellows are leaders people of character and capability. Fellows include an Assistant Secretary of State, a former United States Attorney, an international war crimes tribunal prosecutor, Assistant U.S. Attorneys, government lawyers, White House staffers, Congressional committee staffers, local government elected officials, labor attorneys, non-profit and NGO founders and directors, entrepreneurs, in-house attorneys, private practice attorneys, artists and authors.The Fellowships Board of Directors remains committed to Tonys wish and Francescas vision. Led by Francescas long-time confidante and protg, Chairwoman Emeritus Martha Belcher, and board chair Steve Van Liere, the board has expanded to include members representing all three beneficiary law schools. The goals the board is working to achieve include: strengthening the Fellowship network, providing more mentoring and career assistance to the Fellows-Elect, and raising the Fellowships profile in the legal community. Working together, the Fellowship community continues its efforts to achieve the aspiration engraved on the Fellowship statuette, to be a leader of mankind in all that is honorable, just and compassionate.
