Organizations Filed Purposes: Internet Archive was founded in 1996 to build an Internet library with the purpose of offering permanent access for researchers, historians and scholars to historical collections that exist in digital format including texts, audio, movies, images, software and web pages.

In 2019, we continued advancing our processes and technology for digitizing books, film, and music; and expanded our collections and grew our books curatorial input. We increased materials digitized by 15 petabytes, with the total archived at more than 60 Petabytes of unique data, which consists of more 40+ million public media items (text, movies, audio, images, etc.). Worldwide, we are in the top 300 websites, as we continue to average more than 1,000,000 unique web site users per day, largely due to the Wayback Machine and users having access to its more than 384 billion web pages.Organizationally, the Archive remains stable with about the same number of employees as in previous years.Financially, we benefited from both an increase in support from foundations and an increase in program service revenues.
