Killing My Lobster mission is to make fast, smart, inclusive and fearless sketch comedy that makes people laugh.
Killing My Lobster is dedicated to producing high quality, relevant and fearless sketch comedy that makes people laugh. We are committed to finding the best and most diverse comedic talent available in the Bay Area and bringing those artists together to create original and innovative shows. KML strives to accurately represent the best of the Bay Area and push the boundaries of whats possible in sketch comedy today. In 2019, KML produced 16 original productions with 73 performances. We continued to expand the Diversity in Comedy Fellowship Program which trains aspiring comedians from marginalized communities how to write or perform sketch comedy professionally. We awarded fellowships to 3 new writers and 3 new actors. The fellows each received 7 weeks of classes in writing or acting at KML.
The fellows are then each placed on a writing or acting team for a production and are paid the same stipend as other seasoned collaborators from our professional artistic team. We continued to diversify our writing and acting pools: 62% of our current actingpool is female and 42% of our current acting pool are people of color. 62% of ourcurrent writing pool is female and 35% of our current writing pool are people ofcolor. Women represented 69% of our creative positions in 2019, people of colorrepresented 53% of our creative positions in 2019, a 11% increase from 2018.We continued to encourage our creative collaborators (KMLs writers, actors, choreographers, etc.) to take on more leadership positions by ushering them into new
roles as directors, head writers and instructors.Killing My Lobster continues to have gender parity in all areas of the Organization.KML partnered for the sixth year with 826 Valencia, a nonprofit writing and tutoringcenter for under-resourced youth, to teach sketch comedy writing skills to childrenages 8-11. The program culminates in a performance of the students' works by professional actors from KMLs creative pool. In 2019 there were 15 students in the program. This program is provided by KML at no cost to the children's family/guardians nor 826 Valencia.
