Organizations Filed Purposes:
HONOR THE LEGACY OF MILITARY SERVICE THROUGH A LIVING MEMORIAL AND PROGRAMS THAT COMMEMORATE THE SACRIFICES OF OUR NATION'S VETERANS, EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ABOUT THOSE SACRIFICES, AND SERVE VETERANS OF ALL ERAS, CURRENTLY SERVING MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES AND THEIR FAMILIES.
OUR FLAGSHIP CLUB IN SAN FRANCISCO CONTAINS A LIVING MEMORIAL THAT HONORS MEN AND WOMEN WHO HAVE PAID THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE IN SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY. THROUGHOUT THE HALLS OF THE MARINES' MEMORIAL AND IN THE LOBBY, LIBRARY, AND MUSEUM, VISITORS CAN VIEW ARTIFACTS, PHOTOS, AND WRITTEN PLACARDS THAT PROVIDE INFORMATION ON US MILITARY HISTORY AND THE BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN WHO SERVED, OR ARE STILL SERVING, IN ALL BRANCHES OF THE US ARMED FORCES. IN THE PAST YEAR, WE HAVE ADDED FIVE NEW LIVING MEMORIAL DISPLAYS, INCLUDING A TRIBUTE TO OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM AND THE NAVY CROSS HALL OF VALOR. WE ALSO ADDED 31 INDIVIDUAL BRICKS - REFLECTING 2019 CASUALTIES - TO OUR TRIBUTE WALL, WHICH NOW COMMEMORATES OVER 5,300 FALLEN WARRIORS FROM OPERATIONS ENDURING FREEDOM, IRAQI FREEDOM AND THE PENTAGON DURING THE ATTACKS ON 9/11. THE LIVING MEMORIAL ALSO ENCOMPASSES OUR AID AND ASSIST PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES SERVICES TO ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY, RESERVISTS, AND THOSE WHO ARE TRANSITIONING TO CIVILIAN LIFE. THIS YEAR, WE GRANTED 1,795 COMPLIMENTARY MEMBERSHIPS TO MARINES' MEMORIAL TO ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS AND RESERVISTS. THESE FREE MEMBERSHIPS GIVE SERVICE MEMBERS THE OPPORTUNITY TO STAY AT OUR LIVING MEMORIAL IN SAN FRANCISCO FOR A DRASTICALLY REDUCED PRICE AS THEY TRANSITION TO A NEW DUTY STATIONS, ATTEND TRAINING, OR NETWORK AND CONNECT WITH OTHER VETERANS. TOTAL COSTS OF THESE BENEFITS EXCEED $1.2 MILLION.
2020 MARKED THE 15TH ANNUAL GOLD STAR PARENTS HONOR AND REMEMBRANCE AT MARINES' MEMORIAL, A PROGRAM THAT BENEFITS THOSE WHO HAVE LOST A SON OR DAUGHTER WHO WAS SERVING IN THE US ARMED FORCES. THE HONOR AND REMEMBRANCE PROVIDES A SAFE AND COMPASSIONATE ENVIRONMENT FOR THESE FAMILIES, OFTEN ISOLATED IN THEIR HOME TOWNS, TO BOND OVER THEIR SHARED EXPERIENCES, RECEIVE GRIEF SUPPORT SERVICES, AND BUILD A LASTING COMMUNITY. IN 2020, WE WELCOMED 180 GOLD STAR FAMILY MEMBERS TO THE MARINES' MEMORIAL FOR THE TWO-DAY GATHERING THAT INCLUDED A RECEPTION WITH TRIBUTE TABLES COMMEMORATING THE INDIVIDUAL FALLEN SERVICE MEMBERS, A MEMORIAL SERVICE, SMALL GROUP SESSIONS WITH TRAINED MODERATORS AND COUNSELORS, AND FINALLY, A DINNER TO CELEBRATE THE LIVES OF THE FALLEN OUR GUEST OF HONOR AND FORMER PRISONER OF WAR, LIEUTENANT COLONEL JEFFREY TICE, USAF (RET). COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS EXTRAORDINARY EVENT ARE APPROXIMATELY $113,000 .
LAST YEAR, OUR COMMEMORATIVE AND EDUCATIONAL EVENTS PROGRAM BRINGS PRESENTATIONS FROM MILITARY HISTORIANS, LEADERS IN THE MILITARY, AND EXPERTS ON NATIONAL DEFENSE TO SAN FRANCISCO, MOST AT NO CHARGE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. SPECIAL SPEAKER EVENTS HAD GUESTS RANGING FROM GENERAL JAMES MATTIS, USMC (RET), FORMER SECRETARY OF DEFENSE, AND A VIRTUAL DISCUSSION WITH LTCOL SANDY ALDERSON, USMC (RET), OF MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL.
