Organizations Filed Purposes: Mission Bit strives to eliminate the tech divide for youth living in urban poverty and rural areas across the San Francisco Bay Area by building computer programming and professional opportunity pathways for public school students.

a. Mission Bit provides computer science courses that expose high school students from underserved and underrepresented communities to multiple coding languages. We design our classrooms with project based, small group, learning in mind. Fall and Spring courses run for 13 weeks, 4 hours a week. During the summer, we run intensive introductory and advanced courses that last 6 weeks, respectively. In addition to our classes, we offer students a field trip to a Bay Area tech company, career and college advising related to the technology field, and an opportunity to showcase their group projects to a large community of supporters during our Demo Day event at the end of the term. We worked with 269 students in 2018. Our student composition includes 45% female and 45% combined African American and Latino. b. Mission Bit offers 60 to 90 minute coding workshops for middle and high school aged students. We schedule workshops during the school day and after school for community based organizations. Workshops are led by volunteer software engineers who are trained to offer fun and engaging activities that expose students to what's possible with coding. We connect students to ongoing online opportunities and encourage eligible students to continue their education by enrolling in a Mission Bit course. We served 258 students in 2018. c. Mission Bit has partnered with Hack Reactor to offer students a fast-track coding program and an opportunity to prepare for admittance into Hack Reactor's 12-week Immersive Coding Bootcamp. We served 25 adults in 2018.
