Organizations Filed Purposes: Pacific Forest Trust (PFT) is dedicated to sustaining Americas forests. We work with partners and stakeholders to develop innovative, incentive-based conservation solutions to safeguard our forests, which are essential to climate protection, safe water supplies, wildlife survival, and economic stability.

Forest Conservation and Stewardship By the end of 2019, PFT served as a grantee, monitoring and providing stewardship services on a total of 32 conservation easements on 106,878 acres in California and Oregon. PFT owns and manages 897 forested acres along the border of Yosemite National Park, as well as 540 acres of mixed evergreen forestland on the Outlet Creek Ranch in Mendocino County, California. These lands are conserved, managed and monitored for water, wildlife, and climate values. In 2019, PFT received a donation of a conservation easement on 341 acres of the Green Gorge Forest in Mendocino County, California. Approximately half of PFTs property adjacent to Yosemite National Park was severely burned in the 2018 Ferguson Fire. With financial assistance from the US Department of Agricultures Natural Resources Conservation Service and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, in 2019 we performed clean-up and salvage operations, and in 2020 work on reforesting this property continues, with drainage improvements, erosion control and tree planting. PFT is engaging in ongoing discussions with forest landowners in California and Oregon regarding opportunities for future easement and fee title acquisitions. PFT continues to work with a diverse group of stakeholders on the Klamath-Cascade Advisory Council, as well as conducting field trips and public outreach and educating key stakeholders about the importance of conserving working forests in the Klamath-Cascade region. Forests are central to the ecological health of this critical watershed that provides drinking water for 25+ million Californians.

Policy InitiativesThe Pacific Forest Trust provides technical advice to policymakers, advocates for incentive-based policy initiatives and leads diverse stakeholder groups in support of the conservation and stewardship of working forests and ranchlands.Healthy Watersheds: The State of California has recognized, through legislation and funding, the role that forest and watershed restoration play in promoting water security, reducing fire and flood risks, and adapting to the effects of climate change. PFT is working closely with the states Natural Resource Agency in the planning process for implementation of restoration activities as identified in our 2017 assessment of the conditions and restoration needs of the five source watersheds that deliver water to the Shasta and Oroville reservoirs, Californias two largest reservoirs and the core of the states water supply.Climate Planning: PFT continues to participate in planning efforts related to Californias ongoing efforts to encourage carbon sequestration through management of natural and working lands. We continue to provide technical input to the Oregon and Washington legislatures in connection with their efforts to adopt legislation that would recognize and support forest conservation and restoration/resilience management as tools for reducing greenhouse gases.

CONSTITUENCY BUILDING and General ProgramThe Pacific Forest Trust builds awareness of the vital contributions that privately owned and productive U.S. forests make to the public good: wood, water, wildlife, and a healthy climate. PFTs Constituency Building program raises the profile of these benefits in addition to generating support for the organizations initiatives and programs through events, publications, online communications, and targeted outreach to key stakeholders.
