PPS-SF's mission is to promote the fundamental value of public education and pursue the success of every public school by sharing knowledge, bridging communities, and informing policy.
Family Partnership: Supports parent and family capacity to lead alongside teachers and principals at school sites, hosts Family Partnership workshops on topics such as conflict resolution, school budgets, parent leadership development, English Language Learner reclassification, and trauma-informed school practices, leads Latino, Chinese, and African American Parent Clubs, that build community, offer culturally relevant programming in a safe environment, and help newcomer families learn about San Francisco public schools and their rights and responsibilities as members of our school communities and collaborates with schools and community based organizations to create strong systems of site-based family partnership
Enrollment: Helps families navigate the San Francisco public school student assignment system from Transitional Kindergarten through high school, offers in-person workshops and one-on-one support in English, Spanish, Cantonese, and Mandarin, coordinates a strong network of parent ambassadors who share information and answer detailed questions about individual schools and reminds parents about deadlines, inform them of changes, and respond to frequently asked questions using our website and social media.
Policy: Shares education news that matters to families in San Francisco, giving families the information and tools needed to make their voices heard, provides real-time coverage of SFUSD Board of Education issues and decision-making to over 1,000 followers of our BoardWatch program, keeps San Franciscans posted on local, state, and federal changes that impact our children and our schools, leads community meetings and collect public opinion data to inform education policy decisions.
