RESEARCHSince the 2017 publication of the New York Times bestseller, Drawdown, Project Drawdown has emerged as a leading resource for information and insight about climate solutions. We continue to develop that resource by conducting rigorous review and assessment of climate solutions, creating compelling communication across mediums, and partnering with efforts to accelerate climate solutions globally. Cities, universities, corporations, philanthropies, policymakers, communities, and more turn to Project Drawdown, as they look to advance effective climate action. We aim to support the growing constellation of efforts to move climate solutions forward and move the world toward Drawdownas quickly, safely, and equitably as possible. In the past year, we have made tremendous progress in moving Project Drawdown forward to a new level of reach and impact. We continued development of Project Drawdowns innovative research, analysis, and modeling of solutions to reverse global warming. During 2019, we brought on a cohort of 15-20 Research Fellows to conduct this research, as well as four additional Senior Fellows with specializations in Oceans Solutions, Materials & Waste, and Climate Modeling. This team ?Expanded and updated our initial research to ensure the work remains meaningful and useful to current and future audiences.?Revised our models methodologies to include new approaches, including those informed by partners research.?Identified, researched, and analyzed new solutions to incorporate into the Drawdown List.We initiated research on a new sector of Oceans solutions. The result of this project will be that marine climate solutions will be known widely and presented publicly alongside already prominent sectors such as energy and transport, in the same way that Project Drawdown has highlighted the impact of the agriculture and food sectors of solutions. Ultimately, this will further global understanding of the potential for marine solutions and drive investment and implementation in this crucial area.
COMMUNICATIONSThe Communications arm fulfills the outreach and engagement initiatives in support of Project Drawdowns mission. Through content development in the form of published research results, social media, presentations, an email newsletter to 30,000 recipients, and its website, Project Drawdown distributes the research analysis and message of climate solutions to individuals, governments, and businesses around the world. The communications team secures interviews with major media outlets, speaking engagements for staff, and provides amplification of our partners initiatives. As keeper of the brand, the Communications team ensures that the messaging, intellectual property, and creative assets are used correctly and appropriately by staff and partners. It organizes Project Drawdowns activities into outreach campaigns and ensures that the quality and reputation of the organization's work is maintained.
PARTNERSHIPSDrawdown Learn. For the second year in a row, we partnered with the Omega Center for Sustainable Living on the Drawdown Learn Conference. This 3-day event showcased a powerful array of presenters who illuminated what is possible in the effort to achieve Drawdown. Participants were able to connect, learn, and help chart a path forward for solutions-based climate change education and action in their schools and communities. We began planning for expansion of our Drawdown Learn program into an educational arm of Project Drawdown that will offer free, on-line mini-courses on climate solutions including offerings on the science behind climate solutions, effective personal actions to address climate change, and the role of the food system in solving the climate crisis. We launched the Drawdown Learn Teacher Network to connect educators who have brought Drawdown to their classrooms. The Drawdown Learn Teacher Network is enabling educators to share curricula, course materials, and teaching methods with their colleagues worldwide. Media Impact. Our reach through a broad range of media outlets continued to expand during 2019, demonstrating Project Drawdowns position as an expert resource.
