We mobilize volunteers to complete building repairs that improve the health and safety of San Francisco homes and community facilities.
Rebuild My Block is our newest initiative focused on repairs within a 3 block radius, creating opportunities for communities to build resiliency. Both during planning and on the day of service, neighbors get to know one another and think about their vision for a safe and healthy community. The next time there's a heatwave or earthquake, these neighbors will know who they should check in on. That's the essence of a resilient community, and it can mean the difference between life and death.
Every year on the last Saturday in April we bring together hundreds of volunteers, community members, and corporate partners for National Rebuilding Day (NRD), a day of repair projects all over the city. Generally half of each year's NRD projects focus on renovating schools and community facilities, while the other half address a broad range of health and safety improvements for homes, including painting, decluttering, landscaping, critical electrical and plumbing repairs, and more.
Our Safe at Home (SAH) program provides year-round repairs and modifications that increase home health and safety for low-income San Franciscans. Skilled volunteers install grab bars, raised toilet seats, and handrails. Through SAH we also replace worn carpet, repair rear stairways, perform minor electrical work, and more.
