CUBA:REFLECTIVE IMAGE, INC. IS DEVELOPING A DOCUMENTARY EXPLORING THE MUSICAL CULTURE OF CUBA AND THE WORK OF THE NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION HORNS TO HAVANA, WHICH IS DEDICATED TO INSTRUMENT DONATION, REPAIR, TRAINING, AND EDUCATION THROUGH CULTURAL EXCHANGE BETWEEN CUBA AND THE UNITED STATES.
END GAME OUTREACH:END GAME IS A 40-MINUTE DOCUMENTARY FILM THAT FOLLOWS THE WORK OF ZEN HOSPICE PROJECT AND THE PALLIATIVE CARE TEAM AT UCSF AS THEY REDEFINE HOW OUR SOCIETY TREATS AND UNDERSTANDS END-OF-LIFE CARE. END GAME PREMIERED AT THE SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL IN JANUARY 2018 AND WAS RELEASED ON NETFLIX IN MAY 2018. WHILE MAKING END GAME, WE REALIZED THAT IT HAD THE POTENTIAL TO INFLUENCE SOCIETY AND MEDICAL PRACTICES AROUND A DIFFICULT SUBJECT IN OUR CULTURE: DYING, AND HOW IT IMPACTS US ALL. WE SOUGHT SUPPORT FOR A COMMUNITY AND EDUCATIONAL SCREENING CAMPAIGN THAT WOULD LEVERAGE THE FILM AS A CONVERSATION STARTER ABOUT END-OF-LIFE CARE.THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVES OF THE CAMPAIGN WERE TO INCREASE AWARENESS OF AND THEREFORE ACCESS TO PALLIATIVE CARE, AND TO SPARK CONVERSATIONS THAT ALLOWED PEOPLE TO BETTER UNDERSTAND AND SHARE THEIR OWN END-OF-LIFE VALUES WITH LOVED ONES AND CAREGIVERS. WE SOUGHT TO DO THIS BY CONNECTING WITH AND ALIGNING OUR GOALS WITH THOSE OF EXISTING INSTITUTIONS AND NETWORKS. THESE ORGANIZATIONS COULD THEN DEPLOY END GAME SCREENINGS AND EVENTS IN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, CURRICULAR, AND COMMUNITY/FAMILY SETTINGS TO REACH A WIDE AUDIENCE. WHEN POSSIBLE, WE HELPED ORCHESTRATE LARGER EVENTS WITH SPEAKERS FROM AMONG THE FILM'S SUBJECTS OR FROM THE FILMMAKING TEAM.TO HELP SUPPORT THIS OUTREACH, WE ALSO BUILT A SET OF DISCUSSION MATERIALS INSPIRED BY THE FILM, AND A WEBSITE THAT ALLOWED EASY ACCESS TO RESOURCES AND SCREENING INFORMATION. THESE FREE, DOWNLOADABLE PDFS PROVIDED ADDITIONAL CONTEXT, RESEARCH, AND COMMENTARY FROM END GAME SUBJECTS AND MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS.
