January - December 2018 A year of renovationBetween 2015 and 2017 SFCLT purchased nine buildings. Most had been neglected by previous property owners who has hoped to push out existing tenants. In 2018 we focused our energies on renovating these nine building, some of which required full seismic retrofits, new roofs, plumbing, and electric. Seven of the nine renovation projects were completed by the end of 2018, and we look forward to completing the rest in 2019.Around the world Social Housing proves that housing can be affordable and beautiful. Through the Land Trust we hope to show that this model can work right here in San Francisco, proving that art and beautiful things aren't just for the City's wealthy.March 2018 First BuildingWilled to SFCLTThis spring a San Francisco building owner approached SFCLT about leaving her building to the Land Trust. Not wanting the building to be sold to a speculator, she wished to leave her building to the Land Trust in order to keep it as permanently affordable housing in San Francisco for generations to come! We look forward to working with more SF homeowners looking to turn their buildings into permanently affordable housing in the coming years!May 2018 Co-op Town HallSFCLT hosted our ninth annual Co-op Town Hall, featuring presenters from around the country with more than 60 co-op homeowners in attendance.August 2018 the Bay Area Land Trust CommunityThere are seven Land Trusts in the Bay Area spread out between West Marin and Sonoma in the north, East Palo Alto in the South, Oakland and Berkley in the east, and of course, SFCLT!This year we spent time visiting Land Trusts all over the Bay to learn more about what they do, and what lessons we could learn from them. Each Land Trust is unique and responds to the needs of their community but visiting each one it was clear that they are all committed to creating a more just world with good housing for everyoneSFCLT now has almost 200 lessee members living in SFCLT stewarded properties and nearly 100 community members actively supporting our work.
