Organizations Filed Purposes:
Gum Moon Women's Residence and the Asian Women's Resource Center (AWRC), are projects of the Methodist Church established to address the unmet needs of women and children in geographic and social transition. In providing a safe sanctuary to live in and programs that develop life skills, Gum Moon empowers these individuals, fostering stability, self-reliance, self-determination, and full access to opportunity.
Family Support Programs: In 2019, our family support programs served more than 5,000 families (with infants and children/youth through age 17) through various program activities, including: outreach; curriculum-based parenting education series; one-time parenting education workshops; parent-child interactive groups; parent/peer support groups; parent leadership development; drop-in playgroups; grandparent support groups; early literacy groups; ESL classes; and information and referral services.
Gum Moon Transitional Housing Program: In 2019, Gum Moon provided 4,545 bed- nights to 18 women who were enrolled in the agency's transitional housing program for low-income women who were survivors of domestic violence.
Other Programs In 2019, Gum Moon received another grant from the Office of Employment and Workforce Development San Francisco Chinatown Revitalization Project. Gum Moon will complete 15 more window displays by December 2020.Gum Moon had a successful Healthy Eating Active Learning (HEAL) workshop series in the Richmond district. A total of 43 community members attended the 9-session series and graduated. As an organization that serves survivors of Human Trafficking, Gum Moon received a grant to provide education about human trafficking to different groups of community members across the city. We received funding from the Mayors Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD) to design and execute a job training program for domestic violence survivors who are enrolled in Gum Moons transitional housing program. We are collaborating with several different companies in San Francisco who are willing to take our clients as interns and train them in various service jobs for a period of 10 weeks. After the 10 weeks, the company can hire the intern as a staff person.
