Guadalupe River Park Conservancy provides community leadership for the development and active use of Guadalupe River Park & Garden through education, advocacy and stewardship.
The education program staff provided science-based field trips for public and private schools students, adapted field trips for special needs students, programs for homeschooled, a 300-student Water Wizard Festival, and summer day camp for youth from disadvantaged communities. Last year, over 6,000 children participated in GRPCs site-based programs, which use the park and gardens as a natural lab to teach hands-on lessons and instill a sense of environmental stewardship. GRPCs advocacy efforts focused on promoting the park stewardship, use, and development. These efforts include more City Parks funding, support for homeless services, ecology protections, promoting the park to local residents and businesses, surveying GRPC membership and park users on desires of the park, and ensuring households from disadvantaged neighborhoods have access to the park and our education programs. During the year, GRPC staff and volunteer board members met with local business leaders and elected officials to promote park development, maintenance, and safety.Family friendly festivals and events Pumpkins in the Park & Super Guadalupe River Run drew over 8,000 people collectively and encouraged them to explore the park and connect with each other. These events include performances, games, vendors from local businesses and nonprofits, education programs, and more.Stewardship included recruiting volunteers individuals and corporations to care help care for a historic orchard, heritage rose garden, Rotary PlayGarden, Visitor Center, and other key assets and destinations along the Guadalupe River Park. Volunteers also participate in a number of trail, park, and river clean ups, often filling over a dozen bags of trash pulling 2-3 tons of debris from the River in one clean-up. These efforts support the health of the river ecology and encourage more residents to run and bike along the trail. GRPC harnessed over 13,000 volunteer hours.
