THE ORGANIZATION SUPPORTS AND EMPOWERS PARENTS IN HIGH-NEED COMMUNITIES SO THEY CAN EFFECTIVELY ADVOCATE FOR BETTER SCHOOLS AND SUSTAIN COMMUNITY EFFORTS OVER THE LONG-TERM.PARENT ORGANIZING - PARENTS HAVE A UNIQUE AND CRITICAL ROLE IN IMPROVING PUBLIC SCHOOLS INNOVATE PUBLIC SCHOOLS SUPPORTS PARENTS ACROSS THE BAY AREA AND LOS ANGELES TO BUILD ORGANIZATIONS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES THAT CAN SUCCESSFULLY ADVOCATE FOR BETTER SCHOOLS AND HOLD THE SYSTEM ACCOUNTABLE TO THE NEEDS OF THEIR CHILDREN. AS OF JUNE 30, 2020, THE ORGANIZATION HAS ACTIVE PARENT ORGANIZATIONS IN LOS ANGELES, SAN JOSE, REDWOOD CITY, EAST PALO ALTO AND SAN FRANCISCO.NATIONAL ORGANIZING - THE ORGANIZATION ALSO TRAINS AND DEVELOPS PROFESSIONAL COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS AND PARENT VOLUNTEER LEADERS FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY THROUGH THE COMMUNITY ORGANIZER TRAINING PROGRAM AND NATIONAL PARENT LEADER INSTITUTE.
THE ORGANIZATION HAS A THREE-PRONGED STRATEGY TO ACHIEVE THIS OVER-ARCHING GOAL. THE ORGANIZATION PUBLISHES EASY TO UNDERSTAND DATA AND RESEARCH TO INFORM THE PUBLIC ABOUT WHICH SCHOOLS ARE EXCELLING, WHICH ONES ARE STRUGGLING, AND WHERE TO FIND SOLUTIONS THAT WORK.RESEARCH, POLICY, AND COMMUNICATION - THE ORGANIZATION PUBLISHES ACTIONABLE RESEARCH AND DATA ON SCHOOL QUALITY, DESIGNED TO SHOW THE URGENCY OF IMPROVING PUBLIC SCHOOLS, PARTICULARLY FOR HISTORICALLY UNDERSERVED STUDENTS. THROUGH PUBLIC EVENTS, WORKSHOPS, AND ONLINE RESOURCES, THE ORGANIZATION WORKS TO GET THIS RESEARCH AND DATA INTO THE HANDS OF PARENTS, PUBLIC OFFICIALS, BUSINESS LEADERS, SCHOOL LEADERS, AND LOCAL EDUCATION ADVOCATES.LOBBYING - AS A 501(C)(3) ORGANIZATION, THE ORGANIZATION IS ALLOWED TO ENGAGE IN AN INSUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF LOBBYING EACH YEAR. IN THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2020, THE ORGANIZATION CONDUCTED A VERY SMALL AMOUNT OF LOBBYING.
THE ORGANIZATION WORKS WITH EDUCATORS FROM BOTH SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND NON-PROFIT PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOLS TO START EXCELLENT NEW PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND REDESIGN CHRONICALLY LOW-PERFORMING SCHOOLS.SCHOOLS - THE ORGANIZATION WORKS TO ACCELERATE THE GROWTH OF HIGHQUALITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOR UNDERSERVED CHILDREN. THE ORGANIZATION'S MAJOR SCHOOL SUPPORT EFFORTS ARE THE WORLDCLASS SCHOOLS FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM. THE ORGANIZATION LAUNCHED THE FELLOWSHIP IN FALL 2013. THIS IS THE ORGANIZATION'S FLAGSHIP PROGRAM TO PREPARE SCHOOL LEADERSHIP TEAMS FROM BOTH DISTRICT AND NONPROFIT PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOLS TO LAUNCH EXCELLENT NEW PUBLIC SCHOOLS, TURN AROUNDPERSISTENTLY LOWPERFORMING SCHOOLS, OR PREPARE A NEW PRINCIPAL TO LEAD AN EXCELLENT PUBLIC SCHOOL. THE FELLOWSHIP PROVIDES A HOLISTIC SET OF SUPPORTS TAILORED TO THE NEEDS OF EACH ORGANIZATION, INCLUDING LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT AND ONEONONE COACHING FOR THE SCHOOL LEADER, VISITS TO AND RESIDENCIES AT EXCELLENT SCHOOLS, SCHOOLBASED IMPLEMENTATION SUPPORT, AND ORGANIZING PARENTS SUPPORT. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO PROVIDES ONGOING COACHING FOR SCHOOL LEADERS IN THE YEARS AFTER THEY PARTICIPATE IN THE FELLOWSHIP.
