EDUCATION SUPPORT FOR CLIENTS/FAMILIES WITH MENTAL HEALTH CONDITIONS.

NAMI SCC PROVIDES EDUCATION, OUTREACH AND SUPPORT SERVICES TO THE RESIDENTS OF SANTA CLARA COUNTY; 16 PROGRAMS IN 5 LANUGAGES WITH 26 PROGRAM COORDINATORS AND OVER 130 MENTORS, TEACHERS, PRESENTERS AND VOLUNTEERS WHO GENEROUSLY GIVE OVER 28,000 HOURS EVERY YEAR TOWARD EDUCATING THE PUBLIC AT LARGE THROUGH COMMUNITY PRESENTATIONS, OUTREACH PROGRAMS AND PEER BASED CLASSES. ALL OF THIS IS FREE OF CHARGE TO PARTICIPANTS.

EDUCATION PROGRAMS:FAMILY TO FAMILY - FOR FAMILIES, PARTNERS, AND FRIENDS OF INDIVIDUALS WITH SERIOUS BRAIN DISORDERS. THE COURSE DWELLS ON THE EMOTIONAL RESPONSES FAMILIES HAVE TO THE TRAUMA OF MENTAL ILLNESS (OFFERED IN ENGLISH, SPANISH & MANDARIN WITH 300 PARTICIPANTS).PEER TO PEER - OFFERS A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO RECOVERY TAUGHT BY TRAINED PEER MENTORS (OFFERED IN ENGLISH & SPANISH WITH 180 PARTICIPANTS).PROVIDER EDUCATION PROGRAM - A TRAINING FOR PROVIDERS TO LEARN ABOUT THE LIVED EXPERIENCE OF FAMILIES AND PEOPLE LIVING WITH MENTAL ILLNESS AND HOW TO HAVE A COLLABORATIVE TREATMENT MODEL OF CARE (140 PARTICIPANTS). CRISIS INTERVENTION TEAM FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT - IS AN INTERACTIVE PRESENTATION TO PATROL OFFICERS AND PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCHERS THAT ENGAGES THEM IN UNDERSTANDING MENTAL ILLNESS DISEASE, NOT A CRIME LEADING TO RESOLUTION AND SAFETY FOR ALL (400 PARTICIPANTS).

SUPPORT AND OUTREACH:PEER MENTOR PROGRAM - SIX MONTH PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN A PARTICIPANT AND A PEER MENTOR WHO MUTUALLY BENEFIT BY SHARING THEIR EXPERIENCE OF RECOVERY AND HOPE (180 MATCHES); SUPERVISED BY A PEER COUNSELOR.IN OUR OWN VOICE - PRESENTATION BY INDIVIDUALS LIVING WITH MENTAL ILLNESS WHO SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCE OF RECOVERY OFFERING INSIGHT AND HOPE (150 PRESENTATIONS). ENDING THE SILENCE - PRESENTATION TO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS HELPING THEM UNDERSTAND THE SYMPTOMS AND INDICATORS OF MENTAL ILLNESS. THEY RECEIVE POINTERS ABOUT HOW TO HELP THEMSELVES, FRIENDS OR FAMILY MEMBERS WHO MAY BE IN NEED OF SUPPORT (750 STUDENTS).
