TECHNOVATION IS A PROGRAM (GRADES K-6) IN WHICH STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN A PROGRESSIVE SERIES OF IN-CLASS SESSIONS EXPLORING TECHNICAL DISCIPLINES, WITH AN EMPHASIS ON CODING. KINDERGARTEN: INTRO TO ROBOTICS AND CODING WITH COLOR PATTERNS (OZOBOTS) 1ST GRADE: STOP MOTION ANIMATION 2ND GRADE: CODING MOTION WITH SCRATCHJR 3RD GRADE: GAME DESIGN WITH SCRATCH AND CIRCUITS WITH MAKEY MAKEY 4TH GRADE: ROBOTICS CODING CHALLENGES (OZOBOT AND MBOTS) 5TH GRADE: 3D PRINTING AND COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN 6TH GRADE: MOBILE APP DEVELOPMENTPEER "STUDIOS" PROGRAMS:TO BRIDGE THE GAP FROM MIDDLE TO HIGH SCHOOL, WE PARTNER WITH EVERGREEN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT (EESD) AND EAST SIDE UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT (ESUHSD) TO BRING PROGRAMS TO LEYVA MIDDLE SCHOOL WHICH IS IN AN UNDERSERVED AREA OF SAN JOSE, CA. PEER DEVELOPED THE "STUDIOS" BY UPDATING AN UNDERUTILIZED SPACE AT THE SCHOOL WITH BRIGHT PAINT, NEW FLEXIBLE FURNISHINGS AND THE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED TO SUPPORT THE STEAM INITIATIVES. OUR "STUDIOS" PROGRAMS (GRADES 7-8) FOCUS ON CAREER EXPLORATION PROGRAMS FOR ALL STUDENTS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY. WE ALSO OFFER ADVANCED DIGITAL ARTS AND COMPUTER SCIENCE OPPORTUNITIES IN AN AFTER SCHOOL SETTING. 7TH GRADE: THIS PROGRAM GUIDES THE STUDENTS THROUGH DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES INCLUDING VISION BOARDS THAT STATE GOALS FOR THE FUTURE, HOW TO POSITIVELY "BRAND" THEMSELVES AND TEAM PROJECTS THAT MAP EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS TO JOBS. 8TH GRADE: THIS PROGRAM FOCUSES ON HELPING STUDENTS TO BEGIN TO IDENTIFY WHAT KIND OF LIFESTYLE THEY WANT FOR THEMSELVES AS ADULTS. THIS INCLUDES JOBS, INCOME AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS. STUDENTS WORK IN TEAMS TO RESEARCH JOBS AND INDUSTRY SECTORS.TO DATE, WE HAVE DEVELOPED 25 PROGRAMS THAT HAVE REACHED OVER 5,000 STUDENTS. LOOKING FORWARD, WE WILL CONTINUE TO FOCUS ON WAYS TO EXPAND OUR REACH TO MORE ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOLS WITH AN EMPHASIS ON SCHOOLS THAT ARE IN UNDER-SERVED PARTS OF COMMUNITIES. WE HAVE EXPERIENCED FIRST-HAND HOW FORGING PARTNERSHIPS AND ENGAGING COMMUNITIES CAN EMPOWER STUDENTS AND STRENGTHEN SCHOOLS.
