Organizations Filed Purposes:
SAN JOSE ARENA AUTHORITY SERVES ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF SAN JOSE IN THE OVERSIGHT AND MANAGEMENT OF A NUMBER OF CITY-OWNED SPORTS FACILITIES. THE AUTHORITY HAS ADDITIONAL ADMINISTRATIVE OVERSIGHT RESPONSIBILITIES FOR SOLAR4AMERICA ICE AT SAN JOSE, THE SAN JOSE SHARKS ICE TRAINING FACILITY.
TO SERVE ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF SAN JOSE IN THE OVERSIGHT AND MANAGEMENT OF A NUMBER OF CITY-OWNED SPORTS FACILITIES.
OVERSIGHT OF ARENA AND ICE CENTER:IN FULFILLING THE FUNCTION OF SAP CENTER AT SAN JOSE AND SOLAR4AMERICA ICE AT SAN JOSE FACILITIES OVERSIGHT, THE ARENA AUTHORITY ENGAGES A NUMBER OF CITY AND COUNTY DEPARTMENTS TO FACILITATE THE MANAGEMENT OF THE DAY-TO-DAY OPERATIONS. TO THAT END, THE AUTHORITY MANAGES A COMPREHENSIVE CAPITAL REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT PROGRAM. THE AUTHORITY ALSO WORKS JOINTLY WITH THE CITY'S DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND POLICE DEPARTMENT, THE VALLEY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY AS WELL AS SHARKS SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT IN THE ADMINISTRATION OF A COMPREHENSIVE TRANSPORTATION AND PARKING MANAGEMENT PLAN (TPMP). THROUGH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS PLAN, CRITICAL VEHICULAR TRAFFIC AND PEDESTRIAN MOVEMENT STRATEGIES, VICINITY PARKING OPERATIONS, AND NEIGHBORHOOD PROTECTION ISSUES ARE ADDRESSED AND MANAGED IN AN EFFICIENT AND WELL THOUGHT-OUT MANNER. ADDITIONALLY, THE AUTHORITY IS ENGAGED IN THE PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE ARENA/SAN JOSE DIRIDON STATION AREA. THIS INCLUDES A SIGNIFICANT STATION REDESIGN, WHICH WILL OFFER TRANSIT SERVICE FOR CALTRAIN, THE CAPITAL CORRIDOR, BART AND HIGH-SPEED RAIL.
OVERSIGHT OF BASEBALL STADIUM:FOR EXCITE BALLPARK HOME OF THE SAN JOSE GIANTS, THE ARENA AUTHORITY'S OVERSIGHT INCLUDES FACILITATING DISCUSSIONS RELATING TO FACILITY CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS. THIS INVOLVES AN ANNUAL EVALUATION OF STADIUM IMPROVEMENTS BY THE SAN JOSE GIANTS AND THE CITY. PER THE STADIUM MANAGEMENT AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY AND THE SAN JOSE GIANTS, THE CITY IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL STRUCTURAL REPAIRS. THIS HAS LED TO THE ARENA AUTHORITY ADVOCATING AND SECURING FUNDS FOR NEEDED CAPITAL REPAIRS AND REPLACEMENTS. THE 77-YEAR OLD STADIUM IS CONSIDERED A TREASURED COMMUNITY ASSET. THE ARENA AUTHORITY ALSO WORKS WITH THE GIANTS IN IMPLEMENTING A GIANTS COMMUNITY TICKET PROGRAM FOR SAN JOSE SCHOOLS. A RECENT 3-YEAR NAMING RIGHTS AGREEMENT WILL DIRECT NAMING RIGHT FUNDS TO THE STADIUM'S CAPITAL RESERVE FUND.
TICKET DISTRIBUTION AND OTHER COMMUNITY-BASED PROGRAMS:THE ARENA AUTHORITY ADMINISTERS A HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL ARENA TICKET DISTRIBUTION PROGRAM. FROM A TOTAL INVENTORY OF 4,528 TICKETS AVAILABLE TO THE ARENA AUTHORITY DURING FY 2018-19, THE AUTHORITY DISTRIBUTED ALL 4,528 CENTER TICKETS, WITH THE VAST MAJORITY OF TICKETS BEING ISSUED FOR MUNICIPAL PURPOSES. SINCE THE PROGRAM'S INCEPTION IN 1993, THE ARENA AUTHORITY HAS DISTRIBUTED OVER 115,000 CENTER TICKETS TO THE SAN JOSE COMMUNITY.FOR EXCITE BALLPARK HOME OF THE SAN JOSE GIANTS, THE AUTHORITY WORKED WITH THE GIANTS ON A SCHOOL-BASED COMMUNITY TICKET PROGRAM. AS A RESULT, THE AUTHORITY DRAFTED AND IMPLEMENTED PROGRAM GUIDELINES TO ENSURE THAT COMPLIMENTARY GIANTS GAME TICKETS ARE MADE AVAILABLE TO SCHOOL DISTRICTS THROUGHOUT SAN JOSE DURING THE GIANTS REGULAR SEASON. THE ARENA AUTHORITY ALSO CONTINUES TO ADMINISTER THE SAP CENTER AT SAN JOSE'S CITY AND COMMUNITY EVENTS PROGRAM. DURING FY 2018-2019, THREE SERVICE/EDUCATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS SUCCESSFULLY IMPLEMENTED EVENTS AT THE CENTER. AS A RESULT OF THIS ACTIVITY, $100,000 OF CITY AND COMMUNITY EVENTS PROGRAM FUNDING WAS ALLOCATED TO PROGRAM APPLICANTS TO OFFSET EVENT EXPENSES.
