THE FOUNDATION PROVIDES ADVOCACY AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO SAN JOSES PUBLIC LIBRARIES.

LIBRARY BRANCHES SUPPORT: SJPLF SECURES FUNDING FOR THE GENERAL BETTERMENT OF THE 24 BRANCHES COMPRISING THE SAN JOSE PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM. THIS IS OFTEN USED TO AUGMENT EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR BABIES THROUGH GRADE SCHOOL, PURCHASE ADDITIONAL SUPPLIES, AND PROVIDE CULTURAL PROGRAMS FOR ALL AGES.

LIBRARY PROGRAMS: BUILD A RELATIONSHIP FOR LIFE THROUGH 24 NEIGHBORHOOD LIBRARIES. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS, STUDENTS HAVE A SAFE AND WELCOMING SPACE TO COMPLETE SCHOOL ASSIGNMENTS, CONDUCT RESEARCH, AND SOCIALIZE. EARLY EDUCATION PROGRAMS HELP TO PREPARE OUR YOUNGEST RESIDENTS FOR KINDERGARTEN AND THE CODING5K CHALLENGE EXPOSES CHILDREN TO COMPUTER SCIENCE AND STEAM ACTIVITIES TO BUILD THE FUTURE GENERATION OF SILICON VALLEY EMPLOYEES. THERE ARE OPPORTUNITIES FOR CIVIC PARTICIPATION THROUGH PROGRAMS SUCH AS SAN JOSE ENGAGE AND CREATING BRIDGE LIBRARIES IN ISOLATED COMMUNITIES. ADULT EDUCATION IS ENCOURAGED THROUGH PARTNERS IN READING AND CAREER ONLINE HIGH SCHOOL THAT PROVIDES ADULT LEARNERS WITH A FREE WAY TO EARN THEIR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA.

THE SAN JOS LEARNS INITIATIVE ("SJ LEARNS") AIMS TO BOLSTER ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT BY FUNDING PROMISING AND INNOVATIVE OUT OF SCHOOL TIME PROGRAMS FOR SAN JOS STUDENTS IN TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN THROUGH THIRD GRADE. SJ LEARNS IS A RESPONSE TO LOW ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AMONG STUDENTS IN LOW- INCOME COMMUNITIES IN SAN JOS, WHERE APPROXIMATELY HALF OF THIRD-GRADERS ARE NOT PROFICIENT IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS (ELA)/READING AND MATHEMATICS. HIGH-QUALITY EXTENDED LEARNING PROGRAMS PROVIDE CRUCIAL ACADEMIC SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE STRUGGLING IN THE CLASSROOM AND ARE ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT FOR STUDENTS FROM LOW-INCOME FAMILIES WHO CANNOT AFFORD FEE-BASED ALTERNATIVES.
