Albert Cobarrubias Justice Project: Comprised of the very families affected by the courts system, the Albert Cobarrubias Justice Project (ACJP) empowers families through education, training, and media production activities to affect positive change in the criminal justice, juvenile justice and immigration systems. Our model is called participatory defense. ACJP conducts the following activities: Ongoing Weekly Support Group Meetings to provide a supportive space for families to share their experiences with other families facing issues in the courts system. Ongoing Education and Community Organizing Activities to educate community members about local issues affecting the criminal justice, immigration, housing, and juvenile justice systems, and to implement solutions identified through ACJP. Ongoing Training Activities for community agencies, other non-profit agencies, and other interested agencies on how to engage the community in being active in the courts system. Ongoing Video and Media Production Activities to create videos and other media to assist families in telling the stories of their loved ones impacted by the courts system. We will also provide media outlets online or in print that will feature articles and media (photo essays, video, etc) on larger issues on the courts. Media Production and Community Organizing Activities: Since the Fall of 2001, Silicon Valley De-Bug provided an outlet for young people and disadvantaged individuals in the San Jose region to voice their opinions and experiences about the communities they live in through media production, training and community organizing. De-Bug prints a semi-annual magazine and runs a daily online website that features these writings and media.
