Organizations Filed Purposes:
TO INVOLVE PRINCIPAL OFFICERS AND SENIOR MANAGERS OF MEMBER COMPANIES IN A COOPERATIVE EFFORT WITH LOCAL, REGIONAL, STATE, AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS TO ADDRESS MAJOR PUBLIC POLICY ISSUES AFFECTING THE ECONOMIC HEALTH AND QUALITY OF LIFE IN SILICON VALLEY.
TO IMPROVE THE GENERAL BUSINESS CONDITIONS AND QUALITY OF LIFE IN AND AROUND SILICON VALLEY.
TRANSPORTATIONFASTER BAY AREA RESEARCH, OUTREACH AND ANALYSIS. THE LEADERSHIP GROUP PARTNERED WITH THE BAY AREA COUNCIL AND SPUR TO WORK ON THE INITIAL PHASES OF A POTENTIAL NINE-COUNTY EFFORT TO RAISE FUNDS TO BUILD AND OPERATE A WORLD-CLASS, SEAMLESS INTEGRATED TRANSIT SYSTEM THROUGHOUT THE BAY AREA TO BETTER SERVE THE TRANSIT-DEPENDENT AND TO HELP LURE CHOICE RIDERS OUT OF THEIR CARS. THE EFFORT INCLUDED OUTREACH TO STAKEHOLDERS TO DETERMINE WHAT COMBINATION OF TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENTS AND POLICY EFFORTS WOULD HELP TO BUILD AN EFFECTIVE, CONNECTED NETWORK; PUBLIC MEETINGS TO DISCUSS TRANSIT NEEDS IN VARIOUS COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT THE BAY AREA AS WELL AS POLLING AND SURVEYS TO DETERMINE WHAT THE PUBLIC BELIEVES THE BAY AREA TRANSFORMATIONAL TRANSPORTATION EFFORT SHOULD INCLUDE.
HOUSING & COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENTTHE HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT TEAM WAS PROUD OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS ON MANY POLICY AND COMMUNITY FRONTS. WE STARTED THE YEAR BY HOSTING OUR ANNUAL HOUSING SOLUTIONS FORUM IN JANUARY, BRINGING TOGETHER 200 ELECTED, NON-PROFIT, AND BUSINESS LEADERS TO ADDRESS THE ISSUES AROUND CREATING SUSTAINABLE AND AFFORDABLE HOMES FOR OUR REGION. BUILDING ON THIS WORK THE LEADERSHIP GROUP HOUSING COMMITTEE PARTICIPATED IN PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT PROCESSES IN SILICON VALLEY CITIES INCLUDING THE ENDORSEMENT OF 13 HOME DEVELOPMENTS THAT INCLUDED OVER 7,000 NEW HOMES, MANY OF THEM AFFORDABLE. FINALLY, WE ADVOCATED FOR AND ENDORSED THREE BILLS IN THE LEGISLATURE THAT WERE SIGNED BY THE GOVERNOR THAT STREAMLINED MISSING MIDDLE AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING IN ADDITION TO PROTECTING RENTERS IN CALIFORNIA.
EDUCATION & WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENTTHE TOP GOAL OF THE EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PORTFOLIO IS TO DIVERSIFY THE STEM PIPELINE THROUGH QUALITY STEM EDUCATION. IN 2019, THE EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PORTFOLIO HAD SEVERAL POLICY WINS, INCLUDING BUDGET ALLOCATIONS OF $10M DOLLARS FOR A STATEWIDE CRADLE-TO-CAREER DATA SYSTEM, AND $7.5M TO EXPAND BROADBAND ACCESS IN SCHOOLS. IN 2019, WE SERVED 210 HISTORICALLY UNDERSERVED MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS AT OUR YOUNG WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP SUMMIT, AND ALSO LAUNCHED THE SAN JOSE STUDENT INSPIRATION SERIES, WHICH SERVED 230 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FROM ACROSS SAN JOSE IN ITS FIRST TWO EVENTS ALONE. THROUGH OUR CC2C PROGRAM, WE ALSO FACILITATED WORK-BASED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR 685 BAY AREA COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENTS.
