BUILDING COMMUNITY: SILICON VALLEY TURKEY THE FOUNDATION DIRECTED THE ANNUAL APPLIED MATERIALS "SILICON VALLEY TURKEY TROT" IN 2019. THE COMMUNITY/CHARITY 5K WALK OR RUN, 10K RUN AND KID'S FUN RUN DREW 22,077 PARTICIPANTS CONTRIBUTING $851,000 TO FIVE LOCAL CHARITIES: SECOND HARVEST SILICON VALLEY, HOUSING TRUST SILICON VALLEY, THE HEALTH TRUST, HEALTHIER KIDS FOUNDATION, AND SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK SANTA CRUZ.

COMMUNITY COLLEGE TO CAREER INITIATIVE:THIS IS AN ACTIVE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN INDUSTRY AND EDUCATION TO EXPAND ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY AND INCREASE DIVERSITY IN THE STEM WORKFORCE. THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE TO CAREER (CC2C) INITIATIVE IS AN ACTIVE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN INDUSTRY AND EDUCATION TO EXPAND ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY AND INCREASE DIVERSITY IN THE STEM WORKFORCE. WE BELIEVE THAT COMMUNITY COLLEGES IN SILICON VALLEY ARE IN A UNIQUE POSITION TO PARTNER WITH SEVERAL INDUSTRY CLUSTERS IN OUR INNOVATION ECONOMY TO PROVIDE EDUCATION AND TRAINING - IN AN EXPEDITED WAY - FOR JOBS THAT WILL PROVIDE SOLID MIDDLE-CLASS INCOMES. UTILIZING A SYSTEMS CHANGE APPROACH THAT BUILDS ON AND EXTENDS THE LEADERSHIP GROUP AND LEADERSHIP GROUPFOUNDATION'S LONGSTANDING RELATIONSHIPS WITH INDUSTRY, GOVERNMENT, EDUCATION, AND NONPROFIT PARTNERS, CC2C FOSTERS STRONGER SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, MATH (STEM) AND CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION (CTE) TRAINING AND HIRING RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN INNOVATION-ECONOMY EMPLOYERS AND ALL 19 COLLEGES IN SILICON VALLEY'S NINE COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICTS. WITH THE SUPPORT OF THE MORGAN FAMILYFOUNDATIONAND THE JPMORGAN CHASEFOUNDATION, CC2C IS LEVERAGING A WEALTH OF TALENT AMONG LEADERSHIP GROUP MEMBERS TO PROVIDE TARGETED, WORK-BASED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES THAT TRANSLATE INTO STUDENT SUCCESSHIGHER ASSOCIATE DEGREE COMPLETION AND TRANSFER RATES IN THE SHORT TERM AND BETTER PAYING JOBS IN THE LONG TERM. LAST YEAR, CC2C SERVED 580 STUDENTS. OUR GOAL THIS YEAR: 575 STUDENTS.

BUILDING COMMUNITY: SILICON VALLEY: HEART & SOLESTHE FOUNDATION ESTABLISHED A RACE, HEART & SOLES, IN THE SPRING OF 2014 TO HELP RAISE MONEY TO PURCHASE SALAD BARS THAT WOULD BE PLACED IN UNDER-SERVED SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT THE REGION. IN 2019, 2,383 PEOPLE PARTICIPATED IN THE RACE. AFTER ACHIEVING THE GOAL TO PLACE SALAD BARS IN EVERY SCHOOL WHICH APPLIED FOR THE PROGRAM, THE FOUNDATION DISTRIBUTED $44,800, TO FUND YOUTH HEALTH AND EXERCISE PROGRAMS.
