EASTSIDE EXPLORER IS AN EXPERIMENTAL, HAND-ON FIELD TRIP PROGRAM WHICH WILL ENGAGE OVER 800 MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS AT VEGGIELUTION EACH YEAR. FARM ACTIVITIES ARE CENTERED AROUND COLLABORATIVE GROUP TASKS FOCUSED ON COOLING AND NUTRITION, HUMAN IMPACTS, AND ECOLOGICAL INTERCONNECTIONS IN OUR UNIQUE OUTDOOR SETTING. MIDDLE SCHOOLERS WILL LEARN TOGETHER AS THEY PLANT, WEED AND HARVEST; ACTIVITIES WHICH MOST HAVE NEVER DONE BEFORE. VEGGIELUTION'S HISTORICAL LOCATION IN EAST SAN JOSE ENCOURAGES DISCOVERY WHILE PUSHING STUDENTS AND TEACHERS TO DEVELOP A SENSE OF TEAMWORK AND FOSTERING A STRONG SENSE OF PLACE.

ON 1ST SATURDAYS AT VEGGIELUTION THE DIVERSITY OF OUR COMMUNITY COMES TO LIFE. WHETHER THROUGH EXPLORATION OF OUR YOUTH GARDEN, MORNING STRETCHING DURING YOGA CLASS, OR THE SIGHTS AND SOUNDS OF OUR KITCHEN DURING VEGGIELUTION COCINA, OUR FARM INSTILLS A STRONG SENSE OF CONNECTION AMONG PARTICIPANTS FROM MANY DIFFERENT BACKGROUNDS. OVER 100 COMMUNITY MEMBERS OF ALL AGES FLOW SEAMLESSLY BETWEEN ACTIVITIES; PLANTING IN THE FIELDS, JOINING OUR FREE ART IN THE GARDEN PROGRAM AND MAKING NEW FRIENDS ALONG THE WAY. THROUGHOUT THE DAY LOCAL RESIDENTS SHOP AT OUR FARM STAND FOR FRESH, ORGANIC PRODUCE GROWN ONSITE AND HARVESTED BY OUR VOLUNTEER COMMUNITY FARMERS.

VEGGIELUTION'S EASTSIDE GROWN PROGRAM CONNECTS LOCAL FOOD ENTREPRENEURS AND RESIDENTS TO EACH OTHER AND TO INFRASTRUCTURE AND RESOURCES THAT INCREASE SOCIAL CONNECTION, KNOWLEDGE, AND ECONOMIC MOBILITY. OUR SIX ACRE COMMUNITY FARM AT EMMA PRUSCH FARM PARK SERVES AS BOTH A GATHERING AND LEARNING SPACE FOR ENTREPRENEURS, AS WELL AS A SOURCE OF LOCALLY-GROWN, ORGANIC INGREDIENTS FOR MENU INSPIRATION AND DEVELOPMENT.
